If you have baseboard it will have to mount flush to the top of the moulding unless you notch it which is a pain without proper tools.

I believe so. One side of the gate is a mount bracket and the gate is on a hinge that swings 180 degrees from the bracket. The other side of the gate is a detachable mount bracket the gate locks onto to close. I don’t see why the detachable mount couldn’t go on the banister and the permanent mount go on the angled wall.

As long as the correct screws and tools are used. There is a flat panel that gets screwed to the wall and the gate hooks to that.

Yes I have. We have vinyl posts and didn’t want to drill into them, so we zip-tied 2x4s to the posts and drilled into that. Our porch is covered, so the gate isn’t exposed to all the elements, but it has held up well for over a year now.

You would have to mount one to each side of your opening in which the middle would not lock or secure unless you made something to do this. There is two long strips that attach to the wall one is to hold the permanent side the other the side that opens and locks. Would have attached picture of mine but could not. Hope this helps you.

Yes. The gate has to be attached on both sides by screws which are provided. I used an electric screw gun and was lucky the gated area was finished in wood. The directions were not great and we regretted not assembling in reverse order, but the result is a sturdy, efficient gate.

Yes, you can mount it as close to the floor as possible, and the small dog should not be able to squeeze under it. GOOD LUCK!!!

Q:We would like to use this to block off a 48 inch stairwell outside. would this be suitable?

A:

Easily. We had to remove a section to fit a 42″ opening on our deck. This gates are great but can be finicky. People have a lot of trouble opening them and sliding the sections into one another. The trick to open is to push the latch button with your thumb and then lift straight up. Most try to pull back and have had a friend break the latch. The company is great and got a new one in the mail in two days at no cost. Use WD-40 on the channels where the sections slide into and they work like a dream. I’ve had these gates for five years and will buy these again if needed.

Yes, but it is for extra wide opening. You might want to look at a smaller one. Each panel is 18 inches wide with main panel being 19 inches wide. Total 4 panels.

Yes, it can provided you have it extended most of the way. If you stack it in the compact position it swings only as far as the stacking allows. It is a great gate!

Maybe. My cat can just slip right through the bars, so I had to cut up a cardboard box into panels and fasten them to the gate with twisty ties. The gate now looks like some ramshackle zombie fortification from The Walking Dead.

My cats will sometimes play through the bars with their paws, but they’ve never tried to stick their head through the bars. I think my cats would be more likely to try and jump over than stick their head through. I guess it all depends on the cat. Sorry if that’s not very helpful.

My door opening is 36 inches wide. When I ordered the gate it came with two optional extensions – one wide, one narrow. I used the wide extension and it fits my door opening – that might work on the 34 inch door opening, but it would be pretty tight. Using the gate with the narrow extension would fit the 34 inch opening better. This is also dependent on whether or not you drill into the door jamb or use the cups – I used the cups.

Q:How does the pressure mount work? I am having trouble activating it? What purpose do thescrew on sections serve? They don’t seem to tighten anything

If you are not using an extension, just put the long screws (pressure rods) with rubber padded ends into the holes at the top and bottom of gate. Position the gate where you want it it the doorway…while you are holding it in place, spin the “black dealies” on the ends of the gate. This is what tightens the pressure rods into place. On my gate, the direction you spin the black dealies is oposite from top to bottom and left to right.
If you are using an extension, put that onto the gate first and then follow steps above.

Yes your dog would fit through the pet door, I have a poodle puppy, and she is six months old, and now finally does not fit through. She used to push right through to get after the cat, so I had to tie a rope around one end of the little door and have it be partially closed. Now that she’s bigger it really is a very nice gate. I suspect it is as good good as any. My gate, without extensions, and properly adjusted, is quite solid. Judging by the reviews of others, I suspect the more the extensions you use, the less stable it becomes. But that would be true of any gate spanning a large distance. This gate does have a bar across the bottom that could be a trip hazard. Probably the best advise is don’t put anything at the top of the stairs! But if you must, keep it as far away from the edge as possible.

I know that probably sounds confusing, but you’ll understand when you see the gate in person. I hope this is helpful. I have three of these gates and LOVE them. They seem indestructible. And there’s a small door for cats at the bottom, if you own cats.

I did put some of those round felt floor protectors on the piece the lays against the wall to protect it so that it wouldn’t get scratched up, etc.; it’s worked very well so far. The pressure is tight enough to keep it in place with no screws. They do recommend, though, that you use the screws if you’re using it to block stairs.

The pet door does swing both ways but you have to pull back on the latch to change the direction. It does not swing free in both directions without releasing the latch closure. We are going to put a zip tie on it to hold it open all the time. I suppose you could either remove the latch or keep it open with a spacer of some kind to let it swing free all the time. It should be fine. My hallway has molding at the bottom and is about the same width. It would be best if the molding is flat, but if you can’t make it fit on the molding you can always place it a few inches higher. That may not be the best option for you, but my dog is 70lbs so there is no chance he makes it under a 4″ space.

It locks in a way. When you lower the handle, just push it down a tiny bit harder and a little lever pops over the edge of the handle to prevent it from being lifted. It is easy to unlock….just push the little red lever back with your thumb while at the same time lifting the handle. The little red lever is on a spring action.

The opening of the small door on the gate is 11h x 7w , a little narrower than a piece of paper. I have a very large 25lb cat that fits through it w room. My gate fits a 32-inch doorway, though I could add a couple of inches to that by extending the screws. That adds up roughly (this is not exact) to a total of maybe 44 inches by my reckoning–not even close to the 58 inches you’re trying to fill. Therefore I would look at a wider gate to purchase.

According to the specs it goes up to 44inches so you are about an inch over, my opening is 43 inches. The only thing I can think of you can do is to nail 1-2″ blocks where you want the tension mounts. It won’t be sightly but perhaps you can paint it white to match the gate or paint it to match the opening.

No. One way only. I have 2 of these and they are very effective and do not harm the woodwork in the doorway. Easy to move to a different area. What I like is they keep the dogs confined but the little door allows the cat to get in or out of the room.

If you set the gate up incorrectly, the answer would be a semi-yes. It won’t fall over entirely, but if you get a long section, you DO have to angle it or it will lean over. If you look at the pic, though, you can tell it’s not designed to be a straight fence, anyway. (And we have about an eight foot straightaway, MUCH bigger than a single playyard.). If you set it up to be stable, the answer is no. And, even mine can’t ride it all the way over; it just angles back. There’s been some comments about kids climbing it, but I assure you, once your child starts weighing a little more, they’re not going to want to. The openings are very sturdy, but the edges would be very uncomfortable to put any amount of weight upon.

I would definitely recommend it. In fact, I’m getting ready to order one and two extension panels to set up at my father’s for when we go to visit (we have to fly and can’t take ours.) His house is absolutely un-kid-friendly and really can’t be made so – my stepmother collects a -lot- of antiques, they have a fireplace, etc. They’re going to keep it there for us to use when we visit again. Sure beats having to lug along a playpen.

By the way, this is also a great alternative for us because she’s technically outgrown her regular playpen — and most other kids her age haven’t. She’s in the 99th percentile for height and 96th for weight. She still needs *someplace* that’s not her crib that she can play safely and this fits the bill very well. We put a play mat in the corner for her to lie down on when she’s tired. It has the added bonus of keeping all her toys in one area, too. We have a big Rubbermaid container so she can practice taking her toys out and putting them back, too.

Q:Any suggestions on how to keep Baby from climbing out? We’ve tried everything. Would weaving a strong fabric through the holes help?

I believe the infant surround comes in two heights, I’m assuming you have the shorter one. also I suspect your baby is using his toes in the holes to help him or her to climb up. the most simple fix I can think of would be to put baby’s sneakers or shoes on and double knot the laces. I don’t think the holes in the surround are large enough to get those little baby shoes into them. Give that a try. good luck.

It can be done. It’s heavy, and bulky. But it definitely can be done.. I found it easier to just leave it in an area unless I had a reason to take it down.

It may work…. each panel is 30 inches high and 30 inches wide, and if you would get enough panels to go all the way around so you could hook it closed… I think it would be sturdy enough if it surrounded the toddler bed and was hooked….. I know if you just stand it somewhere and it blocked a way( it is not hooked) so the children can not get out… if they lean against, it will push down….But I know if I have it hooked they have not been able to do this…. Yes, they all detacth from each other. It isn’t the easiest thing to do (ie it’s not like a gate), but it’s not that difficult either. We’ve considered getting two sets & putting them together in the event we have a bigger batch of turkies this comming year.

Check the knobs between each section. If they are too tight or unscrewed too far it will lock the gate. Tighten the knobs to stabilize the play yard.

I don’t think it has rubber bottoms. I have mine on hard wood but bought a 5×3 rug to go under it that sees to keep in in place and the toy box that is inside. I don’t believe they have the plastic code stamped on any of the plastic panels. I searched high and low, front and back and the only thing they have stamped is the month and year code of when it was made.

To open regularly, there is a door with a lever. You squeeze the 2 buttons, lift lever, and then open the door. To remove the panels not attached to the door panel, you loosen the know at the top of that panel’s hinge, flex the panel to pull the hinge apart, and then lift the whole panel off the bottom hinge.

Q:What is the overall height of this containment fence and allso what material is it made of?

The gate sections are just under 36 inches tall, perfect for an early toddler and the material is a rigid plastic. There are no sharp edges though and my grandson had a great time in his. Hope that helps your decision.

I don’t know how old your puppies are, but this would not work for long. I, too, have an Aussie, and he could clear this pen if he wanted to. Also, if they nosed under it, it could easily be lifted up. You would be better off buying an X-pen for dogs.

It would work IF you securely fasten the top and bottom of each end to the wall. It’s very lightweight, so if it’s freestanding the little one will have it over in no time. My 13 pound Pom can easily shove it with his nose if it’s not fastened, so the baby would have no difficulty moving it.

I think you could, it’s a very flexible piece of equipment. It is lightweight, though, so I wouldn’t trust it to hold the baby if I wasn’t outside with her, especially if she’s a toddler.

One could use it stretched out straight. However, you would need to physically attach with some hardware of some type to the wall. It may be less sturdy in the center of the span if unsupported. If semi permanent, zip ties and a couple of 2x2s for top and bottom like a rail may allow to be sturdier an allow attachment to walls on either side. The material and joints are strong. No, you screw it into the wall on the end pieces, top and bottom, both sides. I haven’t had any trouble with the screws coming loose from the wall.

Q:How would I mount this gate in a hallway opening with baseboards at the bottom and straight to wall at the top?

With baseboards, you just use the bracket as a guide, trace around the bracket with a pencil onto the baseboard and cut a notch out of the baseboard so that the bracket sits flush against the wall. This ended up being pretty easy to do.

I am not sure what it was intended for but we are using it outside and so far it is holding up really well. We live in WA so it is fairly rainy at times. I actually want to buy another for the other side of the deck because this one works so well.

Actually no. There are joints on either side of the door that allows you to arc the whole system but not move the door.

You could do that. We chose not to mount it above the base boards so our daughter wouldn’t be able to try to get under the gate. We mounted it to the base boards but had to add a small piece of molding to the wall for the top brackets since we mounted to the base boards.

I LOVE this gate. Granted, our dog is only 8 pounds but this is a very nice looking gate, it is very sturdy and screws into a wall or doorway so it looks like part of your home instead of a temporary solution. It does keep my 2 year old grandson out of our dogs area very well. If closed properly, it cannot be opened by a pet or child. It takes one strong hand or 2 hands to open it. Hi there. It is a deep Bronze color, so dark brown, almost black is what you’d call it. I was worried at first, because all of my previous gates were white, but it looks quite nice. Beware that depending on the opening, it will actually bow out like a Bay window does. That’s what happened to my space. There’s no way to make it any smaller from the size it is. I actually like the way it looks, though, and where we have it, it doesn’t get in the way of anything.

Yes, you could use this block off a fireplace. The mounting points are not really that adjustable. A mounting template comes with gate and those are pretty much set. However, the sides are adjustable to an angle on either side. So, you can leave it straight if you want to, you could have one side an angle and the other straight or you could set it up so both sides are at angle. There are number of possible configurations

Q:Is this a good gate for a small dog, such as a yorkie?

My 10 and 12 pound cats couldn’t slip through it. (They could jump it, but I don’t think a Yorkie could)

The gate has brackets that have to be fastened into the wall. So as long as there is a flat surface for the brackets to mount to it should work at the bottom of a stairs. The side panels pivot where they are attached to the actual gate. So it depends on the width of your stair opening that will determine how much room you will have between the bottom stair tread and the gate. I hope that makes sense?

Yes you can angle it with 90 degree angles in a U shape as long as you secure it with the included screws. If you leave it unattached though it won’t stand on its own very safely. It will be a little top heavy. Also, there are some plastic parts to it in the joints and the latch so I don’t know how well it would withstand the heat of a pellet stove.

Q:I have a dog that likes to chew on any gate we put up. Are the plastic connectors hard enough to withstand chewing?
A:
I have 2 teething retriever pups myself and they have gotten to them a few times when not being watched. They seem to be holding up pretty well so far. They are made of pretty dense plastic and have only sustained superficial damage (scratches and a deep gouge or 2). The gate itself is sturdy and solid metal, lightweight but durable. So far its holding up well. Hope this has helped.

It’s pretty solid. I believe it would hold up well.

It latches when closed. And yes you must pick up a little to open the gate. Overall this is a high quality product and very well built. Cosmetics are excellent too. Install took 25 minutes.

Q:How important is it to make sure the gate is installed flush with the floor ?

our floors aren’t perfectly level & we don’t have any issues w/our gate.

Q:What is the distance between bars? I want to use with a small dog.
A:
The are are about 3 inches apart. I’ve got a 9 week pup and there’s no way he could ever fit

A:
I use this gate in front of french doors that are 60″ opening and it has to angle out on the sides to fit. I think this would be too big for your 45″ opening.

Q:How do the mounts work against base boards?
A:
This is a question we should have asked and therefor did not mount it to our base board, only up on the top brackets. Still very secure.

Q:could this gate fit around a fireplace?

yes, it would be perfect

A:
The mounting hardware is about 1 1/2″ wide and about 3″ long. Gate is made very well.

Q:How do you deal with the molding?
A:
Our molding is very small so we positioned the gate above it. My husband suggested if the molding is taller, get a small piece of wood the same thickness as your molding to put between the top screw and the wall.

A:
Yes is should The sides bend all the way in so the min is really the center gate portion which is in the 38 inch range or so. I think the hall I have it in is probably like 48 inches or so

A: If you are buying this to replace the narrow gate with the wider one it comes with mounting hardware so you will have 2 sets if you want to mount the narrow gate and some panels in another location.

Q:Can this be mounted in a hallway with baseboards, ie. are the top and bottom mounting plates adjustable?
A: They are not adjustable, we have the rubber type baseboards at church and I had to cut part of the baseboard out to make it fit. You could probably make a shim for the top mounting plate.

A: Yes, it bows on either side of the gate opening so it will fit with a curve in it.

Q:what is the spacing from bar to bar? Can a puppy fit through?
A: No the spacing is 2-21/2 inches apart

A: I used them outside so I zip tied them to columns. They are at my Florida home so I can’t look but my guess is that yes there are screws to attach to walls. I will say the lock was very difficult to use. Pretty much had to have two hands to push the button down to unlock it. And even then, it was very difficult to push down.

Q:I see that this gate goes all the way up to 72” long. I have a 65” wide opening. Do i have to buy extra parts to make that fit or do i just buy what
A: No just this gate. It is 71 inches long and hanging bracket is the other inch to make 72.
This gate I s very nice and sturdy. Looks nice also.

Q:why does shipping take so long
A: Depends on who you purchase it through. We normally can ship this in 2 days but we always allow for an extra day or two as a precaution.

Q:Can this be used at the top of the stairs?
A: I imagine it could. Two caveats though. First, to open the door, you have to press down on a button located on the top of the railing. That may be awkward if you are coming up the stairs and you have to pull upward a bit. Guess that’s a saftey feature for small children. Also, you have to screw it into the wall on both sides. This gate goes up to 72 inches I think. I did not want to screw holes in my wall, so I used industrial strength double sided velcro. It’s to keep my dogs out of the dining room. Love that door though! I hope I helped

I bought mine this year and it has the “baseboard problem”. Pretty sure they have not changed the design yet.

A:
You can have it bow out onto the porch and it will still look nice. I have mine on our porch also and I have it turned in so it bows inwards and it looks awesome.

It is not tension mount. It is mounted to the wall with screws. It will stay secure with screws. I also have a tension mounted gate as well and it does stay pretty securely in place.

Q:Can this gate be used outside? Or will it not hold up to outdoor weather?
A:
I am. It positive that it can be used outdoors or not. I would have to look at the material it is made from to see if it would withstand the elements. However if you only need it when you are outside, it can be easily completely taken down and stored inside. We have taken ours down when moving furniture around or having a Birthday party. Hope this helps. It is not a permanent fixture, which makes it nice.

Q:I need an extension panel because my opening is 89 inches wide. Is there an extension for this gate?

None that I know of. It would lose its strength as it is built if there were.

Sorry only use it indoors it appears like it would work outdoors but who knows if we have another north east winter like this one. We love it, works perfectly and very easy to open with one hand.

Q:do you need drywall anchors
A: We didn’t use any, and it doesn’t seem to cause an issue. But it wouldn’t hurt to use them, if you want it make sure it’s secure.

Q:Is 30 inches the highest part of the gate? I am looking to put in between two desks that have a counter hanging over the sides and only have 29 1/2 in
A: Just measured to be sure…..the arch is 31″ from floor to top. Hope this helps.

A: I would have to say that it is more of a black, but there is a brown hue to it. I hope that helps. (more black than brown)

Q:We have an opening that has a slight angle. Will this adjust to that opening, or does it need to be set up straight?
A: As long as the gate can clear the angle it should be good.

Q:Is a drill required for installation? Does it leave a lot of holes in the wall after uninstalling?
A: You will need to drill this in to the wall. 2 mount points per spot, 4 spots total. But you can remove the gate from the mount points and reattach it later. Holes are super easy to fix.

Q:Is there any way to mount this without having to cut out the baseboard and mouldings? is there additional hardware i could buy?
A: Yes! Absolutely. We didn’t cut out anything. All you need is 2 chunks of moulding wood (3-inch by 1/2 thick), to install the TOP two hinges. (Hardware store. Super easy.) The bottom ones will screw directly into your baseboards, so all you need for the top ones is to find something of equal width to compensate. It took us less than 10 mins. (And your mouldings are safe – too high to matter.) Good luck!

A: Do not know. I purchased item for a customer who chose another solution. The item was returned without being used.

Q:How big is each section of the gate? Trying to figure out if it will turn to fit the bottom of our stairs
A: I’m sorry I don’t have that answer. I installed the gate in Arkansas and I live in California. The two side sections pivot so the whole thing can go from a hose shoe shape out to it’s maximum width. They can go from a 90 degree angle from the gate itself to almost straight across. Once in place the pivot points lock so they won’t move. I hope that helps.

Q:Our door opening is 48″ but we can’t have a gate that bows out into the room. Is there a way/option to make this gate work?

You can install the gate to open either way. It has screws on both sides so you decide which way it opens when you install it.

I bought the gate and it did not have pressure mounts. It is screwed into the wall. It does not look bad. Has a nice looking wall plate. I absolutely love this gate!

Q:Can the wall mounts be attached with adhesive rather than screws?

Hard to say. If it were my child, I would say no. He is so strong he would probably be able to break it down with ease. This is a strong gate, don’t get me wrong, but he can shake it with ease.

There is no adjustment for that, but if you are relatively handy it would mean 15 minutes with hacksaw, screwdriver and super glue.

A:
The only thing i can think of is since they are on pegs could you screw the brackets into the inside of the door frame? I use mine outside on my deck. I can say its the best gate ever! I bought two different gates, one for each side. I can’t wait until I need to replace the other gate, I’ll be getting another one of these. If you can make it work it’s worth it.

No, you can not add or take out sections on this gate.

Q:If you remove the 2 side pieces that go on each side of the center door panel, can that panel sit on the posts that are mounted for smaller doorways?
A:
No. The mounting points are on the 2 end pieces and they can not be separated. For the center piece there are knobs that allow you move the center out in an angular position or you can keep it in a straight line with the end pieces.

Q:Does this close automatically?
A:
Yes it does. If you open it all the way, it will stay open if you want it to, but if you’re just going through it, it swings shut.

Q:Can you use just one panel and the gate if you have a smaller opening to block?
A:
Hello, No it won’t work, but it does bend a lot so it might work. I can measure it bent if you’d like.

Q:We have a 60 pound energetic labrador. Will the bowed area of the fence prove to be too weak or wobbly and eventually fail with a dog jumping on it?
A:
I am not sure the gate is tall enough. The labs I had as a kid would probably be able to jump it fairly easily. I would not mount it elevated off the ground as the gate is heavy and will sag without the support. The actual corners lock and seem fairly solidly. It would hold a lab leaning on it and reaching over, but may not hold a full charge. It is wall mounted, so if you hit the studs well, it would probably work.

A:
It’s possible. It would depend on how wide the stove is, and how close the walls are to the stove. The gate itself is very flexible, so it’d just be a matter of whether the walls are close enough to each other to accommodate the gate. I’d measure carefully before purchasing.

Love this gate! We did not need extensions and I didn’t see anywhere you could purchase them.

Q:How exactly does the gate adjust lengths? Is it by the angle you put it at or is there a way to extend and shorten the gate? My opening is 47″
A:
It is by the angle of the gate at either mid joint you can adjust the angle. The larger part at the top at the mid points are the tighten and loosen to adjust angles. Note: the wall connectors are not adjustable so if you have floor molding you will need a spacer at the top to make it work. I did this with mine and it works wonderfully. Spacer is the thickness of the molding.

Hi Kalani, the average rung space is 2″ apart. There are two parts where it’s about a quarter inch larger, and a couple parts that are 1″. But most are 2″ apart.
