Q:I have an opening of 69.75 inches, how well would this gate fit in? Is it curve or straight?

It is straight and it would work well for a 69.75 inch opening. My opening is 68 inches and the gate is sturdy and very attractive. We are happy with it.

Q:Does it have to be drilled into the wall?

Unfortunately yes.

Q:Can it be used in an opening with baseboards where the bottom mounts would need to be a little closer together than the top mounts?

Usually yes. Each of the four mounts adjusts individually, so the bottom mounts can be a little closer together than the top mounts.

The only time this wouldn’t work is if the distance between the baseboards is less than the minimum width of the gate, so measure carefully. (This is an issue I had at the top of my stairs- the distance between the walls was the minimum distance, and the distance between baseboards was too short).

Q:Are the screws log enough to get into the wood frame behind the sheetrock?

I’m not sure but, they were long enough for the frame that we needed to secure the gate to. Sorry if this didn’t help much. Good Luck – it’s a GREAT Gate and so good looking too!!

Around 3″…..I do believe a 4# pom could squeeze thru!

Just measured mine. Slats are 2.75 inches apart. I have a 6 lb. dog and she doesn’t come close to fitting through. Hope this helps. I love this gate.

Q:can the entire gate be removed easily when not in use

Absolutely! The gate is set into mounts attached to the wall that allow easy removal of the gate. This will just leave the four small brackets on the wall. To see these brackets just zoom in on the four corners of the product in any of its images to get an idea of how they look/size.

Q:does the door closes automatically?

No, the door does not close automatically. It is slightly lifted to close.

Q:How wide are the mounting brackets?

They are around an inch to an inch and a half. Not wide at all.

You could mount a 1 inch piece of wood to each side to help you bridge the gap as I don’t believe there are additional extension pieces.

Yes, and it works great. The bottom of our staircase is 72″ wide and it fits well as we mounted it on oak 1×4″ boards and run Velcro around the posts so we did not have to drill into the posts.

It’s a very light almond color, almost a cream color. So if you are looking for white, white…this is not it!

The gate can accommodate small variances in wall angle, but it is designed to fit an opening where the angle of the wall to the floor is 90 degrees. Anything much different is going to require modification of your wall to accommodate the gate.

No, the door has to be in the center.

I wouldn’t do that because people will trip on the gate. We have a 20 lb pug and he has figured out how to slip through that slats so I think your cats could also.

No. We have 2 small dogs. One is 8 lbs. and one is 5 lbs. They can’t get through. I love this gate. We put it across a 74 inch opening between our kitchen and dining room- looks good and keeps my girls out of trouble.

I would agree with your concerns. This gate has a number of unfinished metal threaded screws and bolts that are critical to its construction and mount that I could see rusting pretty quickly if out in the elements for a prolonged period of time. Not sure about the extensions, sorry.

It depends on the width of where you shall attach the gate. We have this gate in a 62 inch area in our family room. It is perfect for us because we can leave the gate open or shut, depending if there is a baby crawling around the family room. Once the little one is walking, we shall put a smaller gate at the top of our stairs. This gate would be to wide to fit at the top of our stairs.

FYI At the other entry into the family room, we have a gate where the width is smaller. This gate swings shut.

Q:How much space is between the up rights. I have a small puppy I want to keep out of a sunroom.

It’s about two inches. I have a dog that is about 12 lbs and he can not get through it. The boo is nice also, it opens both ways and has a simple thumb clip.

There is one extension on each side and they are roughly 16 in or so, I can’t tell exactly because my gate is installed and that means the extension ends are inside the middle gate metal bars and id have to disassemble it to tell exactly.

The gate as is, is just sturdy enough I’m afraid if you attach extenders or some sort of expansion. It will make the gate weak. I have it a the max width and is solid. Anything bigger may fall with a little bit of force. I maybe recommend you ad some kind of temporary solid structure to your wall to not need such a huge size. Everything is pretty much DIY. Don’t be scared to google or use you tube on how build a temp structure cheap under $50. This is a great gate for its size. I’m Afraid if you try any extensions it can be dangerous. Hope this helps. It does fit up to 72″ and, the screws on each upper side of the gate that go into the brackets can screw in or out to adjust for the right width. You should be fine with your 70″ opening – good luck!!

I don’t think that this would work – you have to screw hardware into the wall and the gate itself could not be angled to fit into the hardware.

Q:How high are the sides and how high is the door at top

I send my Summer back, because I didn’t like to reach back to close the door. (It swings both ways).I wanted an automatic closure. But If I remember correctly the door height was 31 1/2″ and the side height was 30″. My active Shiba doesn’t jump it. You can always make it higher by installing it higher but of course you’ll have to step over the bottom rail I’ve redesigned my new expansion gate to lock and close itself, and a simple slight lift opens the gate without having to push anything.

I have 2 of these, and they both work great. One opening is 48″ and the other is 67″. It’s fully adjustable, and I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work for 55″.

Doesn’t sound safe, but it is, and it was a fantastic area to use to set up toy stations (so she’d be encouraged to walk from place to place) and we had enough room for both a Fisher Price Laugh n’ Learn house and farm (which she used as handholds to cruise.)

If you set the gate up incorrectly, the answer would be a semi-yes. It won’t fall over entirely, but if you get a long section, you DO have to angle it or it will lean over. If you look at the pic, though, you can tell it’s not designed to be a straight fence, anyway. (And we have about an eight foot straightaway, MUCH bigger than a single playyard.). If you set it up to be stable, the answer is no. And, even mine can’t ride it all the way over; it just angles back. There’s been some comments about kids climbing it, but I assure you, once your child starts weighing a little more, they’re not going to want to. The openings are very sturdy, but the edges would be very uncomfortable to put any amount of weight upon.

I would definitely recommend it. In fact, I’m getting ready to order one and two extension panels to set up at my father’s for when we go to visit (we have to fly and can’t take ours.) His house is absolutely un-kid-friendly and really can’t be made so – my stepmother collects a -lot- of antiques, they have a fireplace, etc. They’re going to keep it there for us to use when we visit again. Sure beats having to lug along a playpen.

By the way, this is also a great alternative for us because she’s technically outgrown her regular playpen — and most other kids her age haven’t. She’s in the 99th percentile for height and 96th for weight. She still needs *someplace* that’s not her crib that she can play safely and this fits the bill very well. We put a play mat in the corner for her to lie down on when she’s tired. It has the added bonus of keeping all her toys in one area, too. We have a big Rubbermaid container so she can practice taking her toys out and putting them back, too.

Q:We’d like to put it together in the morning and put it away at night, how easy, flexible and easy would it be to do this everyday?

It can be done. It’s heavy, and bulky. But it definitely can be done.. I found it easier to just leave it in an area unless I had a reason to take it down.

Q:Any suggestions on how to keep Baby from climbing out? We’ve tried everything. Would weaving a strong fabric through the holes help?

I believe the infant surround comes in two heights, I’m assuming you have the shorter one. also I suspect your baby is using his toes in the holes to help him or her to climb up. the most simple fix I can think of would be to put baby’s sneakers or shoes on and double knot the laces. I don’t think the holes in the surround are large enough to get those little baby shoes into them. Give that a try. good luck.

Q:Can I use this to surround a toddler bed to keep my son from getting away too quickly. He can crawl out of his crib but is only 16months.

It may work…. each panel is 30 inches high and 30 inches wide, and if you would get enough panels to go all the way around so you could hook it closed… I think it would be sturdy enough if it surrounded the toddler bed and was hooked….. I know if you just stand it somewhere and it blocked a way( it is not hooked) so the children can not get out… if they lean against, it will push down….But I know if I have it hooked they have not been able to do this…. That is the reason I purchased the playpen and it works wondefully. Because of its segmented design I have fit it into some strange places. I keep it as a rectangle behind the couch and it is perfect. Once when company was coming over I removed a segment and made a triangle to fit in my bedroom by the bed. a great idea for puppies and small dogs. They seem to like it to as the go in by themselves when the gate is open,

I think your lab will absolutely able to push this around on a ceramic floor, and the puppies too. I have an 80 lb lab and she is very strong. This is a very lightweight gate that will likely do very little to contain your dogs. I own a similar gate but only use it to keep my kids & dog from the grill on my deck. For something heavier & sturdier, I would consider one of the metal gates on the market. These are unfortunately much more expensive, but more heavy duty than the light plastic ones. I love the configure gate because I can arrange it any way. I use it in a straight line across a large opening between my family room & kitchen, but also at Christmas around the tree to keep my enthusiastic lab from eating or yanking down our tree. Q:Can the panels come apart so I could potentially use 3 to block off the fireplace and 3 to block off something else?

Yes, they all detacth from each other. It isn’t the easiest thing to do (ie it’s not like a gate), but it’s not that difficult either. We’ve considered getting two sets & putting them together in the event we have a bigger batch of turkies this comming year.

Yes. They’re made to connect. I’ve got 2 sets connected at my house and am going to buy a third set for even more room for play.

I have the 6 panel and it it pretty sturdy. They all will move a little because they aren’t tied down to anything. My 11-3/4 month old granddaughter tries to climb up the side and it holds pretty steady. The other grandmother has the 8 panel and seems to be as steady. They will move just slightly. I feel it is safe. As always you have to check regularly. I am very pleased.

It would not serve as a wall. The sections are made to connect together in a hinged fashion which do not lock straight.

Yes you can but it won’t stand on it’s own. Adding feet as an accessory would be a good idea for the company.

Check the knobs between each section. If they are too tight or unscrewed too far it will lock the gate. Tighten the knobs to stabilize the play yard.

I don’t think it has rubber bottoms. I have mine on hard wood but bought a 5×3 rug to go under it that sees to keep in in place and the toy box that is inside. I’m sure he could push it if he wanted to. My baby can climb it though if he really wants to. Gets his little toes in the holes and up he goes.

Q:What type of plastic is this play yard made of? I’m looking specifically for what plastic code is stamped on the gate itself, if there is one.

I don’t believe they have the plastic code stamped on any of the plastic panels. I searched high and low, front and back and the only thing they have stamped is the month and year code of when it was made.

Not that I can tell, I assumed I could connect it to similar brands when I purchased it but I couldn’t figure out how.

Hi Teresa, I haven’t used it for a dog, but hear me out. We have this set up in our kitchen with hardwood floors, and our 15 month old can push the entire pen around the room. She puts her hands up on the side and just starts walking and the pen goes with her. Idk if your pup is rambunctious or not, but if so I wouldn’t choose this one.

Each section can be detached. That makes it possible to configure it many ways. 2 sets of 3 would be possible although it would make a very small area, so not sure what could be “fenced” by it. There is only one gate section. Additional sections can be ordered through the manufacturer.

Q:How do you take apart the panels

To open regularly, there is a door with a lever. You squeeze the 2 buttons, lift lever, and then open the door. To remove the panels not attached to the door panel, you loosen the know at the top of that panel’s hinge, flex the panel to pull the hinge apart, and then lift the whole panel off the bottom hinge.

Q:What is the overall height of this containment fence and allso what material is it made of?

The gate sections are just under 36 inches tall, perfect for an early toddler and the material is a rigid plastic. There are no sharp edges though and my grandson had a great time in his. Hope that helps your decision.

It is possible to remove the panels. I took two of them off making my 8 panel unit 6 panels. The instructions are very good. Do you have them. If not, go to the manufacturers website and see if the instructions are available there. Basically, this is what you do: Loosen adjustment knobs on the panels to remove. Step 1: Place hand next to loosened adjustment knob. Apply downward pressure and flex panel to disengage top hinge. Pull up to disengage bottom hinge. Repeat to remove other panel. Step 2: Connect panels by following same technique in Step 1. Step 3. Tighten all adjustment knobs….

I don’t know how old your puppies are, but this would not work for long. I, too, have an Aussie, and he could clear this pen if he wanted to. Also, if they nosed under it, it could easily be lifted up. You would be better off buying an X-pen for dogs.

My 2 y/o niece and 4 y/o nephew can plan it it happily when they don’t want the dogs licking their faces or swiping their snacks. Hi Janae, it will come up about 1 foot short, but if you add the extension it would work. I believe you can make it a 6 or 8 segment gate. I bought the 6 segment.

It’s not very study, atleast structurally when it’s not in a circle. While you can brace it against something, ultimately it’s much easier to push (my 18 month old was pushing it when he started to walk at ~13months) Best bet if your going to get it is to understand that limitation

It would work IF you securely fasten the top and bottom of each end to the wall. It’s very lightweight, so if it’s freestanding the little one will have it over in no time. My 13 pound Pom can easily shove it with his nose if it’s not fastened, so the baby would have no difficulty moving it.

Q:can you attach two 6 panels together? I want to square off a piece of my yard just for the baby stuff, but the one 6 panel isn’t big enough, so I was wondering if I bought two can I attach them all together?

I think you could, it’s a very flexible piece of equipment. It is lightweight, though, so I wouldn’t trust it to hold the baby if I wasn’t outside with her, especially if she’s a toddler.

Q:Can it be made to fit straight across a wide opening and attached to the wall at each end? I have already done the math to figure out it will fit.

One could use it stretched out straight. However, you would need to physically attach with some hardware of some type to the wall. It may be less sturdy in the center of the span if unsupported. If semi permanent, zip ties and a couple of 2x2s for top and bottom like a rail may allow to be sturdier an allow attachment to walls on either side. The material and joints are strong. The gap between the last post and the wall is 1/2″ . You won’t be able to use even 1 extra four inch gate panel, so you’ll have to make up the difference by moving itty bitty tiny (on the picture) mounting blocks on the outside of each corner. They extend to fill your gap by screwing out and extending. By my estimation (and I could be wrong) that leaves almost a 2″ gap on either side. Q:Is anyone using this outside on a deck? I would use it for indoor and outdoor needs. It is very sturdy and it comes with extensions. Right now I have it in a 36 inch door way and I don’t have all the extensions on it. A: We use ours at the top of the stairs as well, attached to a wall on one side, and a wooden stairway bannister on the other side. This will work if you have enough of a flat surface on the iron railing to use as a brace for the hardware mounts. Flatter is better, although we were able to tighten ours enough against the curved bannister for a good fit. Q:how wide does it expand to? A: We used this gate at the top & bottom of our stairs. The stair openings are 3′ 2″. The gate comes with an extra 9″ panel. That makes the gate almost 4′. It also has adjustable padded screws at top & bottom of gate to secure it into position. I wouldn’t recommend it – the space between the bars is probably wide enough for a rabbit to fit through. Our cats do it all the time, and unless you have a very fat rabbit it will probably do the same.

Q:To remove the gate on occasion, do the sections come apart easily without major disassembling? or do you have to store it as a 6 ft long piece?

Each segment is screwed into the corresponding segment on the bottom and top bar. It is not impossible to take them apart and store as smaller segments and would require unscrewing these when assembling and disassembling. When we slide it off we keep it assembled since it is usually only for a portion of the day every so often and isn’t convenient enough to take apart.

Q:Our opening is exactly 72 inches wide. Will this gate accommodate that space and still be sturdy enough for a two and a half-year-old?

I have mine installed in an opening that’s 73.5″ wide and it’s holding fine. Even though I have mine just past the recommended size it seems sturdy enough for my 15 month old who’s 30 lbs and likes to attempt to rip it out of the wall.

This gate covers a six foot opening. This will not work for you. It is wonderful for what we needed it for which was a six foot opening, but will not be good for the width of your hallway.

Yes, I have four of them. I have them at the top and bottom of each set of stairs. They are the best gates that I have found. Just make sure you actually install them the right way, not very hard to do but important. Very good quality and very sturdy, that’s why I bought four of them.

no, mounting brackets need 34 1/2 inches

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as long as you used a tone of zip ties. The gate is almost too easy to open. All the kids who are tall enough to see how it locks have been able to figure out how to open it.

Yes it would work. I needed it to be longer so we nailed two 2×4′s together for each end. It is very sturdy.

What is the purpose for your gate? Who is it for? Who will be using it? I ask because it might change my answer. If the gate is used respectfully, I believe industrial strength Velcro cut to fit and also adjusting the pressure rods tight could do the trick. It has been working for me. Both my walls are tile. Indoors. Are your walls indoors? U might be able to come up with some kind of adjustable tension solution that could work for u instead of my mighty Velcro idea. That was simple for me. Q:What is the dimension between the wall attach points?

from wall to wall is 42″, not using all the extensions. Gate itself is centered. Side note, I contacted summerinfant to see if they had a suggestion, and they said they were going to replace the gate. Have not got confirmation on that yet however.

I am not sure. I bought this to go across a large opening from my living and dining room. It has worked well to keep our dogs in the living room. It does have to be installed instead is using tension to hold it in place.

Yes it should work just fine. I would use different hardware for each side you are installing it since it is two types of material.

No. The supports screw into the wall then you slide the gate in. I’m not sure if they have a kit to make it pressure mounted or not. Might be worth looking at their website.

No. It will tend to swing closed but you have to lift it to latch it

with the right padding to cover the retractable screws that hold it in place, yes, it could be converted. im not saying it would be very sturdy, and obviously without padding it right, it would definitely ruin your walls. its not something I would suggest.

Yes it comes right out. Turn the clips.

The top and bottom adjust independently so it may still work. I have molding on both sides where mine is installed that sticks out about 1/2 inch with no problems. Note that you do have to screw the mounts into the wall though so the may get in the way depending on the size. I have mine screwed right into the molding

With the hardware and instructions, no it could not be mounted to stone. However, someone who is a bit handy could use a different anchor than the ones provided and mount it to stone. I mounted mine to brick.

Hey, I just measured mine and it’s 3 ft tall at the tallest point (middle) and mine is at a 5ft 6 in length-wise extension right now.. But it can extend fully to 6 ft! I have a very strong 1 1/2 year old baby boy and this gate holds him back well! It also looks great in the house, my girl friends always give me compliments on how nice the gates look!

from the description, I think the newer one is wider. The one I ordered does not expand to 6 ft. I really like it. It is sturdy, and perfect for keeping the pets out of the living room.
