We have three ferrets too. One is a Houdini. Even he can’t get over it. I love this for my ferrets. Wouldn’t use anything else after buying it.

It’s a solid piece. Like plexie glass. No mesh. My two ferrets have yet to climb it- it’s too high for them.. However, my kitten eventually figured out how to jump over it.. But that’s to be expected with a growing kitten. I would def recommend this gate, especially for ferrets! Hope this helps.

When you mount it, you attach it to the walls with screws so you can always take it down and reuse it. You can also take the gate down but leave the wall mount in the wall if you want to temporarily take the gate down but put it back up later (like if you want to light a fire etc). Just a side note: the screws they supply are useless so you’ll need to get longer ones if you are looking to use the wall mount.

Q:We are looking for something like this for a church nursery. If 2 were bought would there be enough room for about 10 children and toys?

A:

It probably depends on the numbers of toys. I suggest thinking of it in terms of your space. I did the math, if you made a square with it, you would have 7.7 ft sides and 58 square feet – pretty big – but probably not for 10 kids. That is like putting 10 kids in a dorm room. Still, put some tape on the floor in the shape you want to find out for yourself. Segments are roughly 23 long – you would have 16.

A:

I’ve been using this for our Doberman puppy who is currently 5 months old, weighing 42 lbs. I’ve currently opened it up and used it to corner off part of my office with a whelping pad on the floor to protect the carpet. She can actually jump it, though if I keep the “no-no” bottle nearby, she tends to stay in her playpen better. I think even a small dog could eventually figure out how to jump it, though. Overall, I’m still very happy with this purchase. I just can’t use it to pen her up when I leave the room.

It comes in sections that you have to put together. You would have to brace the section in the doorway somehow for it to stay.

I would imagine you could sense all the “elbow” pieces work together. We used it as shown – hexagon shape and now we have it straight out as a room divider… If it can link together with 3, 4,5 or 6 sides … Yes to 7-12. You will probably have an extra rod and screw top left over.

Q:will it handle chilren shaking the fence

A:

My son jumps up and down trying to shake the fence when he has temper tantrums. It holds up just fine. That said, ours is cable-tied down to rubber mats (link below). I highly recommend this solution, as in addition to shaking, many kids try to move the walls of these things and can move the entire pen around the room. I have it in front of a pellet stove that blows most of the air above the gate. The gate might get a bit warm, but you can touch it.

You can but it may require moving around other panels to make it work. One side of the panel has female parts and the other male, so you need to piece it together to make it work.

Q:Would I be able to install this on a wall with a thick baseboard?

A:

Yes, you could because the brackets can be set above the baseboard, which would still leave the unit on the floor. That is how we have ours.

28″ I’m 5’4″ and it comes to my upper thigh. We use it to keep a chihuahua off the carpet. Metal and easy to set up.

Q:I want to use this as a room divider, wall to wall is 124″. if I use 5 panels ill be 4 inches short and wont be able to fasten to the walls. right?

A:

Mine is angled so I can’t tell you how many inches it is for a straight 4-panel fence. If 4 panels is too short for you, then the only way to make it work is to use one more panel and bend a little bit. The connection between each panel can be secured. And the connection to the wall can be angled. Instead of a straight fence from wall to wall, you’ll have to give it some curve.

It has panels of 2 ft wide. So the closest you could get would be six by six by 4. or put it in angles as shown. It has 8 panels. You may be able to get extra panels. We have ours 4 x 8 x 4 against a wall, which is the 4th side. The ends do not have to connect. It is really amazing all the shapes you can put it in. We love it.

Q:we have a rambunctious boston terrier – will this gate hold when he pushes on it?

A:

It will move but I doubt he will knock it over.

Q:What is the diameter of this play yard?

A:

The maximum diameter is 5ft. Each panel is 2ft long and they can be removed to reduce the size or you can purchase a second playpen and use the additional panels to increase the size. It is very easy to remove or add panels.

Q:Is the gate affective with a 18 month toddler if it is free standing?

We have a 20 month old who is probably about 33 inches tall. We have it blocking our wood burning stove. It is against the wall but not attached. He does pull on it, but for the most part just leaves it alone. I would say it works pretty well.

The height is about 47″ and the length is 192″ straight I think. All depends what shape you wanted to be. I use mine as fence to keep our puppy from cross oven until she is fully trained.

comes with two sets of mounting hardware, so that would be for one location. since sections separate, could probably buy extra set and move to different location.

Q:I don’t know if my latch is broken. But does this require both hands to open the gate? Because It doesn’t open with one hand.

A:

I can open my gate with one hand, although it takes a bit of dexterity and most of the time I use both hands. In general, I pull back on the red latch with one hand and lift up the white lever with the other hand. However, I can sort of flip the white lever up with a finger while pinching back the red slide latch. It definetly takes a bit of ‘oomph’ to slide back the red latch. But this keeps crafty two year olds from being able to open the gate.

Q:how do you make it go in the circle like the first picture? mine doesnt have anything to connect it or so it seems

I believe my husband just twisted the little knobs on top of the gate sections. Then made the shape we wanted then tightened them.

My neighbor is using them to form a U across the front and around the sides of a half wall and banister to a staircase to protect their toddler granddaughter from falling down the stairs.
As I used both sets of what is used to attach them to the walls, they have innovated their own way for temporary attachment when granddaughter is visiting.

It is a glossy white finish. It looks as though it has several layers and is very well finished.

I am pretty sure it would fit. The total length of all 8 panels is 192 ft. I have 4 panels spread out and curved to go across a 6 ft opening and I love it. You would probably have to curve it or have some of it zigzagged to fit, but it should work.

A:

Each panel measures 24″ from the center of one joint to the center of the next. Actually, using my tape measure, it looks like it’s just a hair over exactly 24″ (maybe 1/8″ over). However, if you’re wanting to stretch a few panels across an open space in the house, you’ll also have to account for the rest of the width of each end joint, plus the wall mounts…You’re almost certain to have to slightly curve or zig-zag the panel lineup a little even if the space you want to cross is an exact multiple of 24″.

Q:Not speak English well. Two sets can be connected to one I bought a total of 16?

A:

Yes. I believe that you can connect multiple sets.

very free standing, either in an octagon or square formation. We use only 6 panels for our 5 month old swiss shepherd mix puppy. It can also be attached to wall with included hardware, and is easy to move. we just went on a road trip and put this in the back of our van for our puppy. I wish I had one of these when my kids were babies.

Each piece is about 24 inches and there are 8 pieces, so you should have enough coverage.

It’s just under 2 1/2 inches between bars.

It’s actually very durable and all depends on how tight you make each joint. Mine has taken a pretty good beating so far and is still in great shape.

I don’t know if you can purchase just the gate, but if so you would need to add the gate panel and a plain panel. The connectors are male and female and so the panels must be in even numbers to connect properly.

The connects only on ends of the gate so it will work

the answer to your question is no. material that is in contact with floor: metal fence and gate sections and plastic caps on top and bottom of posts. at 31 pounds though, especially on a rug, might be hard to move for a small toddler or pet.

You cant adjust each panel, but you can angle them in order to fit your space.

Each panel is 24 in and there are eight panels. You can shorten it if your opening is not that large but you have to rearrange the end caps to get it to attach to the wall brackets. I used four of the panels for my opening. To use it as a playard, it’s 19 sq feet.

Q:Product description says 28 inches tall, but the photo of the box up there can be seen with “30 inches tall” written on it. Which is it?

A:

It is def. 28″ tall. Only the connecting knobs stick up an extra 1/2 inch, so really can’t be counted towards the overall height.

Q:How wide is the door opening? I am plus size and read some poor reviews about their extra tall gates with doors being too small to walk without turning sideways.

The opening is 16″ which will require you to turn sideways.

In theory, I believe it can be used to go across a “wide area” like a fence, but you will have issues if you expand too far without some sort of turn-back to create stability. I think one of the weak points is the connection at each end of the gate sections – my 3 year old is able to pivot them by pushing and pulling on them.

My cat cannot jump over it – but she is also lazy. She is of normal weight, but big as far as cats are concerned, and 10 years old.

Yes. I attach and re-attach pieces all the time. I added them to make my play yard a big square. I took them out to make a smaller pen to put around my Christmas tree…now I have moved it again and have a different configuration to surround the fireplace.

It isn’t easy to secure but this is what I’ve done: Put the lower circular connectors on top of one another so they are together. The top parts then go together by pushing the part that sticks up into the groove on the edge of the other side. They then are locked in place.

Q:Instead of buying the 2-panel extension kit, could I purchase another 6-panel set and attach it to the 6-panel set I already have?

Yes, that’s what we did… just orient the panels correctly and there is no end to how many 6-panel sets you can attach; it’s better to have a few spare panels anyway in case you want to modify the play-yard.

Another tip: We recommend that you angle the corners where the panels meet (sort of like in the main product photo), so it is more stable… keeping multiply connected panels in a straight position is not as stable and will bend when baby leans on it; an alternative is to fasten the panels to wall and/or floor.

Q:Can this gate attach to the wall.Do I purchase suction cups or does it have to drill holders into wall?thank you

Mine did not come with hardware to attach to a wall, and when I looked at it closely, it might be hard to attach a bracket to do that. We have used velcro straps to connect ours to a couple of different things (railings, a piece of furniture) but it isn’t really designed for that.

The width of each panel is 30 1/2 ” across the top edge. If you include the hinge circle (which is part of each section) it measures 32 1/2″.

If you are talking a straight line divider…yes.
Each of the six panels is 2.5 feet giving you a linear run of 19 feet. You would have to “play with” the panels to get it to fit your precise dimension.
I do use ours to block off a pool area outside & have it extended in a straight line with the end panels folded at 90 degree angles as we didn’t need the 19 foot length.

No. It is very hard to open and shut. All the panels connect and you have to pull it apart it. It works great to contain them because they cannot get it open but not good to use as an easy access opening

Yes you can extend it straight and it measures about 13-14 feet but you may want to brace it or tuck it behind something for support at the ends so it does not tip over. I used it to block off my family room and braced one end up against the wall with a chair and it worked great.

Q:I have a 15 month old. Do you think a child between the ages of 15-18 months would be too strong for this?

A:

It’s pretty sturdy. We wrapped it around our tv for our granddaughter and it worked great! It’s well made. Now if they are going to seriously shake it, or run full force into it keep it mind it is plastic. But I think a little one could try to climb it and it would hold up pretty well. We were very happy with it.

Q:is it free standing on carpet? i want to use this as barrier gate next to the tv stand , does this product serve its purpose?

I do not see this free standing as its best use. It’s tall and the sections are large. I found the sections difficult to adjust and turn to a 90-degree angle. I think it is most effective as an enclosed pen. It does have rubber pieces to put on the bottom and it will stand on carpet, but because the sections are large — they “wobble” a bit unless all attached to each other and used with some 180-degree angles, or an enclosed “square.”

Q:can it be used outside?

Yes this can be used outside. Just not left outside. The sun will damage the plastic.

I imagine you could use zip ties and tent stakes to anchor it, but is fairly light. I know that I really like ours because it is easy to set up and packs away very easy.

AS long as you have something to wedge it in between to keep it up. We use it sort of like you are asking and we wedge to end pieces between the end of our couch and the end table. Depending on how large the opening, you may need to stabilize it in the center.

if it from the same manufacturer I don’t see why not. you have 2 open ends …. let’s say one end is #1 and the other is #2 … when you add an additional gate it would also have 2 open ends … it seems quite feasible. See if any stores sell this product so you can look @it in person or have the sales people try it out and get back to you. Sorry, I don’t have an definite answer but sure does seem plausible.

Yes. There is a wide range of angle to make any shape. I have mine setup in our family room as a blocker to the TV and fire place. It’s setup as free standing, in a wide M shape if you can picture that. I believe the company does make wall attachments too – do a quick search for that. But you can pivot the panels in any direction and make a rectangle or wider half wall as a room divider. Great stuff. Also – don’t apply the anti-skids until you figure out how the panels connect. There’s a trick to enclosing them all.

The panels connect to each other so there isn’t a wall connection attached. For our small dogs, instead of connecting them all together as pictured, we used velcro to attach the end panels to the wall. This would not be strong enough for an active child but maybe a bracket could be used instead.

Q:how do you use with one extension?

The gates are easy to combine. I own four gates. I used almost three sets to make a giant play pen for children. It has two gates and is very solid when put together as an enclosure. I then have two smaller sections for large entry areas of the home. Sections each have a twisting lock that are easy to loosen and tighten. Once loosened, just take a section and put it on another unit. They are very easy to separate or combine.

Q:Can you remove one panel and just use five panels? Can the gate be the last panel on the end or does it have to be the 2nd or 3rd panel?

I have the North States configure gate and a Kidco auto close gate (for standard doorway openings). I love the auto close feature of the Kidco gate and the fact that the door swings both ways. The North States gate does not have an auto close feature and only opens in one direction. The Kidco gate is opened by pulling back on a latch and then lifting up the door; very easy to do with either hand. The North States gate is opened by pushing a button and then lifting up the door. Also easy to do with either hand. Both gates are sturdy. I am using my Kidco gate tension mounted in a standard doorway and it won’t budge. I have the North States super yard gate set up so that it is blocking a wide entryway between my living and dining rooms. It is not tension mounted but my husband set it up so that it has four 90 degree angles in sort of a U shape. Imagine 90 degree angles at the top and the bottom of the U, if that makes sense. It is amazingly sturdy even like this.

I initially bought a Kidco configure gate but after bringing it home I realized that I actually needed to buy 2 to make it a super yard like this North States gate, for a significantly higher cost. So I returned the Kidco gate and bought the North States configure gate on Amazon and am very happy with my purchase. If price is not an issue, then I recommend the Kidco gate simply because of the auto close feature, but you can’t go wrong with either one.

Yes, it’s sturdy. My kids push on it and my son (after many months and much practice) has learned to climb over it, but the only issue we’ve had is that it’s starting to come out of the wall a little. It takes a lot of abuse but it’s a good, strong gate.

The rods connecting pieces together have a big block like cylindrical piece that locks them in place. If you unscrew these completely the panel can be removed.

It should work for your space. It divides rooms well and u can configure it into what ever line u need to divide the room. It is sturdy since u actually drill it into the wall on each side. If u push it it will move a bit so I would suggest putting it on the lower level, up against the step. Or if u need it on the upper level leave some room so the baby can’t push it over the step creating a space to get stuck in.

Absolutely perfect for babies and toddlers. Very sturdy. The gate is fabulous. The fencing is sturdy and has some weight to it so if they are pulling up, it will not tip over. Just one will not be very spacious though, you might want two. It also comes with attachments so you cam hook it to the walls and enclose a corner area if you wish.

Q:Does it have to be mounted to a wall with screws or other hardware?

Hardware is provided for wall mounting, but it stays up without it. We have ours standing next to some furniture and our little one is not strong enough to push it yet.

Yes. You just unscrew the “pole” that attaches the gate to the brackets. It would be fairly easy.

They are plastic exterior connectors, but they each have a twist lock mechanism so once it is in the place you want they do not move. My daughter is constantly hanging and shaking the gate and it does not move. It should be fine as long as it’s mounted and locked correctly.

I don’t think there is a tension option. I’m not 100% sure. It is a very sturdy gate however. The weight and construction is better than the baby gates I own. I bought the extra panels, and use that square to block off areas. If I had to buy more baby gates, I’d stick with the same brand. If I was looking to block stairs, I’d zip tie this to my stairs. I hope this is at least a little bit helpful.

My dog is 52 pounds. I use it as pictured and have found it very sturdy, and it stays in place very well. It’s a good quality product. Each section locks which helps it to keep its shape, even if used as an extended gate it will keep its shape once locked in place. You pose a good question unfortunately I can’t answer that question (sorry). You could try it while you’re at home, see what happens. If your child is strong enough to push it (it’s pretty heavy), yes it will slide on wood floors. I imagine you could get some sort of rubber pads that would help prevent it from moving.

“Taupe,” which is a very light grey. I was disappointed by that at first, but it is such a light grey that it doesn’t look bad with neutral furniture. The company/Amazon need to change the description to clarify that it’s not white.

There are only enough pieces to attach to one doorway and there is only one swinging gate. Not sure if you can buy extra pieces… I am on the hunt for more mounting pieces because I am currently using the gate in one doorway, but want a “regular” section in another doorway.
Basically, the way it comes, you can have it as an enclosed play yard or have some/all sections stretched out to block a wide opening and attached only at the ends.

I had a 40 lbs of toddler and he front flipped out of the top of his playpen, but this is wide,solid and stable. Two 35 lb Beagles rest their paws on the top of the gate and it never moves. No knock over-but you may want to electric connector strap the bottom to a sofa or bookcase so it

We don’t have a five-year old, ours is about 16 months, but I believe it would be very difficult. There is button on top of the frame near the gate. The button has a fairly stiff spring. You have to push down on the button and then lift up on the gate and swing it out to open. Having said that, kids can surprise you.

I wasn’t sure, so I just tried it myself. It comes off from the wall attachments in the exact opposite way that you attach them. The ease of this, I think, will depend on how tightly you mount it in the first place. Bottom line is it can be done without removing wall mounted hardware. I don’t think I would do it on a daily basis, though.

Yes. There is a wide range of angle to make any shape. I have mine setup in our family room as a blocker to the TV and fire place. It’s setup as free standing, in a wide M shape if you can picture that. I believe the company does make wall attachments too – do a quick search for that. But you can pivot the panels in any direction and make a rectangle or wider half wall as a room divider. Great stuff. Also – don’t apply the anti-skids until you figure out how the panels connect. There’s a trick to enclosing them all.

It can be opened by disconnecting 1 side of any panel.

I forgot the name but I ordered them on here. They are foam interlocking squares with dinosaurs. We needed 2 sets to fill the play yard.

We bought the 8 panel and they are each 4 ft and a smidge wide

Q:Is it strong enough to hold up if an infant tried to stand and pulled up on a panel?

Absolutely. That is all our 11-month-old does; up and down, up and down. It’s great for cruising.

Q:can this be used open like to block off a room or large area from dogs? I know it wont fix to a wall but can it lean and stay put once open straight

A:

well, using it open may not work great as it can easily be moved by a mere push or pull. I do use it open sometimes too now that my 1 year old has started walking a lot to block certain areas we don’t want him to walk up to…it works but not so great…

Q:If I buy 3 pairs of the extensions I can make a playard? or I need something else? I need to mail it to outside the US and I need in separate parts

A:

You should be fine doing it that way. Extensions can just be added in. This item is very simple to add or remove gates.

Q:Can I buy it in separated parts? I need to mail it to me outside the US and my mail company won’t bring it if it is more than 4 kg.

A:

No, it is sold together, but you could separate the joints and package pieces yourself.

Q:does it work on wood floors

A:

Just like anything else on a wood floor it will slide. Maybe a large throw rug underneath? This gate is amazing

Q:is it easy to open the panel and go in? I am wondering whether to buy this one or the one that comes with a gate (north states superyard colorplay ultimate)?

A:

The one that I purchased (it has been a few years, though) isn’t easily opened and closed. I would maybe recommend one with the gate!

Q:Is this a BPA-free product?

A:

I threw out the manual, but the plastic is made out of either a #2 or #5… which are “good” plastics and generally do not contain BPA or other “bad” plastics (which was my concern as well in the event my infant/toddler might decide to teethe on it instead of her toys).
