Q:When you lift the latch to open the gate, does the entire gate lift evenly, or are you simply ’tilting’ the opening side?

A:

The hinges that it are mounted to the wall allow for upward movement, so the whole gate does come up.

Q:Can you leave the gate open?

A:

Yes. We keep ours closed but not latched so its not in our way walking thru the hall to other rooms. If it were to open into another wall, you may have to put something in front of it to keep it from closing or put some sort of catch on the wall.

Q:Can this be hinged to lay flat against a wall when not in use, 180 degree swing?

A:

Yes

Q:Can I mount this on an angle?

A:

It’s designed for perpendicular mounting in doorways and halls etc. So, I do not think mounting at an angle will work, unless you don’t mind having more of a gap under one end or the other.

Q:The top of my stairs is one side bannister one side dry wall. Is drywall okay or will this come right out like the Munchkin brand gate?

A:

If the gate is at top of stairs there should be 2X4′s behind the drywall at the top and the gate can be anchored thru the drywall and into the 2X4.

Q:Does this gate have to sit on the floor or can it be installed a couple inches above the floor? I’m worried about it scratching my wood floor.

A:

You can install it at any height you want. I installed ours a half inch off the floor for the same reason.

Q:How does the latch work? Can a 4 year old open it? How about a 18 month old?

A:

It is a little metal lever that you lift. An 18 month old can’t do it. Not sure about a 4 yr old. My 8 yr old can operate it. It takes a little coordination even for me lol. You have to lift the lever and the gate at the same time to disconnect it.

Q:Would a wheelchair fit through this gate? It is large electric wheelchair. If not can you recommend another safey gate? Thanks so much!

A:

Yes i would think so cause it expands and can open wide.

Q:need to mount this on stair banisters. top mount would be about 1-2″ further back than the bottom mount due to shape of banister. would this work?

A:

Yes, it could work, but I do not recommend it. 1 one of the eye screws would project further out of the banister, which would not look good. 2 the eye screw would not be properly supported, so a longer one would need to be used.

Q:Can this be used outside on a deck?

A:

This is wood. And although like it a lot inside, I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements.

Q:Can this gate be installed in brick? One wall in my house is all brick.

A:

The eye-screws mount easily into a door jamb that is made of wood or plastic. However there is no reason why the eye-screws cannot be inserted into brick or mortar, as long as there is a supporting anchor that the eye-screws can be supported by. I personally think it’s too much preparation work for a gate that is meant to be easy to install. Good luck in finding what you need.

Q:Do you think a grown cat could get her head stuck in a gap? I’ll be going through this gate several times a day..is this the best one for me? Thanks.

A:

I doubt if a grown cat can get stuck anywhere in this gate. I use the gates to keep 2pet dogs out of the bedroom area.i don’t actually lock the 2 I go through several times a day. Just prop them against the wall and the dogs are fine. If you are using for a child it’s a different story. Since I don’t lock and unlock my gates I’m not sure how inconvenient it could be.

Q:I already have this item but the eye screws have broken off from the wall. What size eye screws can I buy at Wal-Mart/Home Depot to replace them?

A:

I think the regular size for the old fashioned door hook locks that our parents used to have on their bedroom doors. … just guessing.

A:

Depends. We couldn’t because we have an iron balustrade on one side of the staircase. It will work best if you have walls on both sides, or at least a wooden newel post.

A:

It depends on the breed and size of the puppy, and how wide you stretch out the gate… but I doubt it.

Yes. You may need to adjust where the eye screws go, but it should work.

Completely folded up it is 23″. Yes, we have an eye hook to latch it to the wall when folded up, and another at the other end of the opening to latch it when open. I love ours.

yes, it is easy to open and expand with one hand. We use it to keep our little dogs in the laundry room when we aren’t at home, they are mild mannered dogs so they don’t jump up on the gate, at least we havent noticed that they do. So far, we love the gate, was easy to install and was the perfect answer for our problem.

First you can latch from either side. There are two hooks on either side and the hooks on the top have a thumb lever for locking. The hooks connect to eye screws that go into the wall and banister. If it is not needed on a continual basis it can be easily removed stick it in a closet until it is needed.

Q:Is this gate metal or plastic?

A:

The gate itself is metal. It does have some plastic coverings and the top slide latch is metal. Where the gate connects together at the top (where the top slide latch is) is one of the plastic coverings.

We’ve had one of our many gates for 3 years and no one has noticed the minimal plastic and we haven’t had any issues.

Yes, the dialing pressure pads give you many degrees of tension in terms of the width of the opening it’s placed. I have 4 of these gates in my home, in 3 different width’s. You will be able to obtain a correct fit even if your opening is slightly varied.

No. Gate works with tension. If not a straight tight fit it may not close properly.

I ordered the 7″ extension and I didn’t have any fitment issues. It slid right into the main gate.

How is it not fitting?

Q:I have a three lb dog and wonder if the dog will slip through. Are the planks too wide?

A:

Maybe. My mom has a 2lb chihuahua and I think she can maybe get through. Ours is on stairs and she really can’t go up. I measured between the bars and its 2.1 inches so if the dogs head is bigger than 2.1 in than you won’t have a problem.

Q:how wide does this gate extend to?

A:

I have mine in an opening that is 42 inches wide, the tension knobs are not screwed out to far as to make it wobbly. I would think, based on how my gate looks, that I could probably get maybe another 3/4 inch on each side, in width, without making it unstable. I have this same gate in an opening that is 47 inches wide, and had to use the extender piece that is approximately 7 inches wide, to make the stretch. It looks real nice, and is very secure. I have received compliments on its appearance. I chose black, felt it looked better against my formal living room style. Hope this helps.

Q:why is this gate not recommended for use at the top of stairs?

A:

It is a pressure mounted gate and not secured by hardware so there is a chance it could slip at the top of the stairs. Mine came with mounting cups that you can either stick or screw to the wall to prevent this from happening. I used the 3M like stickers and it works very well at the top of the stairs.

It’s about a good 2 1/2 feet tall. I’m 5’7″ and i am able to walk over it just fine, if need be.

If you use 3 x 10.5 plus 1x 3.5 you will have a range of 63 to 67 inches.

First, we really like this gate. A well built and funtional product, better than most if not the best. However, this wide of an opening will be difficult. This gate works by pinching between the jambs of the opening creating a large pressure and compresssive force in the gate, enough to flex the gate substantially (way it is designed). With the wide opening the gate may become unstable. You could give it a go with three 10.5″ extensions (10.5 x 3 + [28"-32"]) = 59.5″-63.5″ opening.

There are these small “cups” that can be screwed into the wall or post (the gate then pressure mounts into these cups) and these supposedly make the gate safe for the top of the stairs. But, I personally wouldn’t do this and would get a different type of gate.

Q:I would like a gate that does not automatically swing shut. Is there a way to tighten the hinges on the door to make it stay open when you open it??

A:

No, the gate will always try to close.Pivot point more than hinges.

Q:What is the noise like? I will be using in a high traffic area and i don’t want to hear a clanking every time the door closes.

It is loud if you let it close on it’s own, but you can lift it up and set it down to close quietly.

kids are smart! The way the gate functions to open is by pulling the gate upwards(this happens via the hinge mechanism) and then opening by swinging in either direction(inward or outward). There is a “latch” that also works well to keep shut provided it is set up properly between the door frame

There’s a larger one available, ie, for wider openings. But since this one says it fits up to 32″ you’d need at least 40″ of extension.

I measured it at 18″ open. No family member (all under 150 lbs, except myself at 196 lbs) has had a problem using it. Although if a person was of abnormally large stature, like 250 lbs or more, then there may be an issue. Average pregnant woman, shouldn’t be a problem…
