Q:The entrance to my stairs measures 37″ exactly. Will the 38″ gate fit?

A:

No. The gate itself measures 37 inches, but the pressure mounting system (basically, a screw with a rubber pad at the end) is mandatory and adds length to make the gate 38.2 inches wide.
