Q:We received this gate with the top having about a 4 inch gap where it should clasp on top. Is there something we are not doing to get this to close?

A:

Simply tighten the four ‘screws’ on the ends until the gap closes.

Q:which is the distance between each bar?

A:

2- 1/4 inches.

Q:Will this gate fit a 33 1/2″ opening (almost 34″) and a 35 1/2″ opening? Thanks so much for your help!

A:

The instruction sheet states that without extensions it will fit 28″-31.5″. With one extension it will fit 31.5″-35.5″. With two extensions it will fit 35.5″-38.5″. My opening was just over 33″ so I had to use the gate with one extension. Hope that helps.

Q:I’ve seen some reviews that say the walk-thru is small. How wide is the walk-thru?

A:

Walk thru is 17 inches wide. Easy enough for a person, but if you want to take something wider thru the gate you may have to take the gate down to do so. But I have managed to take a storage crate thru by turning it on its side.

Q:Are the hinges plastic or metal?

A:

There’s a piece of something–can’t tell whether it’s hard plastic or metal–that is permanently affixed to a metal piece. The hinging action comes from a hidden piece (so I certainly can’t tell what that’s made of) that pivots inside the piece described above. The piece described in sentence one does not move. It seems solid and substantial, but I can say that the piece I know to be metal has a different sound when I tap on it than the piece that’s permanently affixed and does not move. Clear as mud? Don’t picture something like a door hinge–it’s altogether different.

Q:can this gate be installed so it’s rounded out like in the video clip?

A:

No, the “North States Supergate Extra Tall Easy Close Gate, Bronze” can not be “rounded” like in the video. You have to get the “Supergate Deluxe Decor Gate” in order to get the “rounded” version of the gate system.

Q:If our doorway is 29″ wide will this fit? The ad is confusing: “28″ 31.5″ wide”. Is it 28 or 31.5 at it’s narrowest?

A:

There are manual adjustments that screw on the side and also additional panels included with the gate. Yes it will definitely fit.

Q:Is there anything under the bottom rail that would protect the floor from being scratched?

A:

No, but you can put a piece of material under it or install it raised off the floor a fraction of an inch. You really don’t have to worry about it marring your floor if it’s installed properly, the main section doesn’t move, the gate swings, but there’s a small bar under it that doesn’t move.

Q:Does it fit in a sliding glass door?

A:

While it may ‘fit’ in the opening, it will not be secure enough with the tension resting on the sliding door (the door on the one side will not be wide enough to hold the tension ‘rings’ on the end of the screws). I would not advise using this for a sliding door. They do make models that do fit sliding doors though – http://www.amazon.com/Cardinal-Gates-Lock-n-Block-Sliding-24-Inches/dp/B003TFEF3G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398872451&sr=8-2&keywords=Cardinal+Gates+Lock-N-Block+Sliding+Door+Gate – try that link.

Q:My 2 dogs are large, each about 80 lbs. Do you think the tension settins for this gate fits securely enough to hold them back?

A:

I believe it would stop them with just the tension adjustments even without the tabs you screw onto the walls. If one of your big dogs got a running start and plowed into into the gate trying to take it down it might move. I’d be more worried about them going over it. It may get a little frustrating adjusting the gate during installation getting it perfectly straight across opening, latch aligned correctly, and right amount of tension on all 4 adjustments but once in it is not moving.

Q:How wide are the circles that push against the wall?

A:

They are about an inch to an inch and a quarter.

Q:I need to put a gate in my hallway. In the past, a pressure-mounted gate punched a hole in my hallway drywall. Will this gate do that?

A:

There are flat round cups that get screwed into the wall (or you can use the foam sticky pads but I didn’t think they worked as well) the pressure points of the gate go into these cups. I don’t think it would punch through the wall if installed correctly.

Q:I have this gate (in black) and I need a larger extension for it. Does anyone know if they make one?

A:

As you know, this gate is 36″ high gate fits openings 28″ 31.5″ wide, expands up to 38.5″ wide with two extensions included. I do not now if you can purchase additional extensions and how well they would work if available.

Q:will this fit on a 33 1/2″ doorway. How long are extensions?

A:

The Supergate fits easily into a 30″ doorway without any extension. Each extension is more than two inches wide. You may be able to get it into the 33 1/2″ doorway using 1 extension.

Q:Are there extra extensions available, beyond what is included?

A:

There are 2 separate attachments included in the kit( I dont know if that is mentioned) ALso, it is possible to get additional ones but they are not easy to find online.

Q:Can this be installed as a tension mounted gate? We are renting a Victorian with crown molding, so no screws allowed? Also need to move it around.

A:

Yes, I installed it with no screws or other hardware. It’s in there pretty good, though a determined person/pet could move it like any tension mounted gate.

Q:Is there a way to use this gate on stairs with spindles?

A:

I don’t think so. It has tensions on each side and they are about 1 inch in diameter and round.

Q:My gate will not autoclose anymore. When gate swings shut, the bottom portion of the gate hits the bottom frame and stops … does not snap closed.

A:

Maybe it is not straight anymore. I’m not sure why it could happen, mine works fine and it is not screwed to the wall. You might need to contact the manufacturer or seller

Q:How do you buy additional extensions in the bronze color to expand the width of the gate?

A:

It came with two additional pieces as part of the purchases. I didn’t use them in a standard size door way but they seem to expand it buy 8 more inches or fours.

Q:Would a 3-4 month old kitten fit through the bars?

A:

Depends how small the cat is. Cats will do what cats will do. A 25 pound cat cannot jump over it.

Q:It says this goes to 6 feet wide but the description only says 38.5″ wide.

A:

It definitely doesn’t go 6 feet. Wonder why it says that? It’s a very nice gate though. I never had to use the extensions.

Q:Is there hardware included if you wanted to make it a permanent gate?

A:

No attachment hardware is provided, however this product may be used as a permanent gate because thread adjustments are provided on top and bottom left and right. These cause the gate to be pressed securely into the doorway or other place where it would be installed. It is not permanent in the sense that the gate is secured with screws or nails.

Q:Do the tension knobs adjust individually? I have baseboards and always have a hard time because width is different from the top width.

A:

Yes they do

Q:How far apart are the bars spaced?

A:

They’re about a half inch or less apart. I own 2 small dogs (shih tzu) and it works great for them

Q:The doorway we need to place this gate into is 35.5 inches wide. Will this gate extend that wide?

A:

I’ll measure tomorrow and let you know.

Q:Does this gate auto close? I’m looking for one that I can keep open so the dog can go in and out of the kitchen when I don’t need to block her off.

A:

The gate will stay open if opened all the way, there is a gravaty notch or catch. If you just walk through and do not fully open it, it will close itself.

Q:how long does the gate go with the extensions?

A:

exactly as described

Q:At what height does the top mounting attached to stair spindle?

A:

At the very top, around 36 inches

Q:Is this gate sturdy enough to hold up against a 65 lb dog that might jump against it?

A:

I believe this gate would stand up to a 65 lb dog. It is extremely sturdy if installed correctly.

Q:What is the diameter of the pads that contact with the wall? We need this gate to fit within a section of wall slightly larger than 1.25 inches.

A:

not sure of the diameter of the pads, but they are a good size. also. once correctly put in place the gate will stand where it is put. i use two gates to cover the entire doorway. i have as cat. cats are very agile and have no problem scaling over a low gate. my gates have been in place for almost a year. it will not move until you loosen the pads from the wall.

Q:I have a 30″ door and it wouldn’t fit. It would fit without the tension knobs, but it also would not stay in the doorway securely without the tension

A:

Your gate must somehow be different from mine, since the actual gate I have is about 27″ wide and certainly would not have fit a 30″ without the tension things. Occasionally I’ve had to slightly retighten or reposition the tension knobs, but it’s still working great for me. We go though that gate many, many times a day and have absolutely no complaints about it.

Q:Can this be used outside between a fence and a wall?

A:

I have mine inside between two walls. If the fence is sturdy but I don’t think so

Q:Can the gate be attached to stair newells?

A:

It depends how sturdy the newels are because the gate uses quite a bit of tension to maintain a secure hold.

Q:how is it attached to wall?

A:

Best way to get an idea is to watch the installation video: http://www.northstatesind.com/index.cfm/event/video/id/162/catid/2

Q:What is the widest opening in the gate? I have a cat and want to make sure she cannot get through any of the bars.

A:

I have a cat also, he is not big about 7-8 pounds, he can not go through. but the prodcut’s quality is so good, strong recommanded. if you have a small kitty perhape
s can goes through.

Q:Can this be, or is it also recommended for the Top of the Stairs? I noticed the description mentions bottom of stairs but not the top of the stairs.

A:

When searching for gates myself, this gate is not recommended for the top of stairs. In buying this gate, I imagine the reason is that there is no hardware to install this gate. It is a tension gate. So if used with children in mind, it is not a good idea. I bought this gate for use with my pets. If an animal is the reason, I guess it would be alright. But definitely not for use with children.

Q:can you still close a door? Can these be installed in a doorway and you still be able to close your bedroom door if you want some privacy?

A:

No, you cant! I just installed this in the doorway to keep the dogs out of the bedroom. I went to test it out and – nope! The top bar of the gate is at exactly the right height to be in the way. It is a really nice gate, though. Kinda a pain to install, but nice and sturdy. I just bought the shorter one so I can finally have a gate!

Q:How do you remove the warning labels on both sides of the bottom rail?

A:

We just peeled them off….

Q:How long are the two extensions this comes with? How long are these two extensions the product comes with?

A:

I was wondering the same thing. The product description says it fits openings up to 31.5 and expands to 38.5 with the two extensions. Does that mean both extensions only add 7″ (3.5″ each?) In the video the extensions appeared to add much more width. Can someone clarify?

Questions and answers regarding Regalo Easy Step Extra Tall Walk Thru Gate
Q.Would this be high enough for a cat? Jul 22, 2013
A.It depends on how nimble your cat is. I have 2 larger cats (15 or so pounds), and they have not jumped it.
Jul 22, 2013 by Jenna B
Q.It says this is a pressure mounted gate, are screws needed at all to mount this gate? Sep 11, 2013
A.You don’t *need* to screw it into the wall, but it comes with screws. I have 2 rather rambunctious cats that will pull on the gate if I’m on the other side of it for too long. Without it being mounted to the wall, they would, without a doubt, pull it down on a daily basis.
Sep 11, 2013 by Jenna B
Q.I need to mount this to the wall with screws (dog pushes it over) I lost one of those wall mount pieces, where can I get replacements?Feb 25, 2014
A.Home Depot has wall mounts that are similar in the hardware section.
Feb 25, 2014 by Paul
Q.I’m trying to figure out if this would be strong enough for my dog, who is 100 lbs and pretty strong, but doesn’t jump. If not this, any suggestions? Aug 18, 2013
A.If the dog doesn’t jump on the gate it should work. Definitely mount to the door frame, it comes with the supplies. If you don’t put the screws in the wall then anything that pushes up against it will knock it down.
Aug 18, 2013 by Mommy of twins
Q.Does this gate stay open, or does it need to be propped open with something? Also, does it swing open either way or just in one direction? Aug 28, 2013
A.It will stay open on its own. It only opens in one direction, it has a tab at the bottom of the gate but you can turn the gate so the door of it opens on the side you want…. Towards you or away from you. I turn mine so the tab at the bottom is on the side I don’t want my dogs pushing open. I hope this helps :-) I wish I could send ya pics to help see it.

Q.what is the width ofthegate? Nov 17, 2013
A.16″. I have to rotate a little sideways when walking through.
Nov 17, 2013 by Carol S. Cates
Q.Exactly how wide are the circles that push against the wall? Please only answer if you’ve measured them as precisely as possible.Mar 22, 2014
A.I measure them as 1 and 9/32 inches in diameter
Mar 22, 2014 by Marty
Q.Is the width adjustable and what is narrowest opening it will fit? Feb 28, 2014
A.I have one in a 32″ doorway, which is a common interior door size, and it will fit a 30″ space. I don’t think it will fit a 28 ” doorway. You have to buy the “optional” extender to fit a 36″ doorway.
Feb 28, 2014 by S. Williams
Q.what is the width May 18, 2014
A.The actual gate width is about 28″. I have it in an opened that is 35″. The sides are adjustable (you screw them in or out). I got them for my dogs, and they cannot get through. One is a puppy.
May 18, 2014 by D. Andersen
Q.can a cat fit through the slots? Apr 16, 2014
A.The widest gap is 2-3/4″. A small cat could easily pass through. A larger cat would have to work at it.
Apr 16, 2014 by Amazon Customer
Q.Is it for dogs also, I have 2 pit bulls. Oct 22, 2014
A.My St Bernard went over the regular gate but has not tried this one. She wants to greet people at the door but they don’t want to greet her.

Q.how wide is the gate opening? Jan 23, 2014
A.16 inches.
Jan 23, 2014 by S. Thorn
Q.I purchased this gate and it appears to be too short without the extension and too wide with the extension, any options? Sep 9, 2013
A.The main part of the gate is made for a 30 inch wide door and can be adjusted a few inches. The extension adds 6 inches to accomodate a 36 inch door. One would have to be creative to get it to fit a door in between these two sizes.
Sep 9, 2013 by Marty
Q.will it fit a 36 1/2 opening? what about a 40 1/2 opening? 9 days ago
A.It fits a standard door opening and it also comes with an expandable attachment, so I would say yes and yes!
8 days ago by Rhonda M Benoit
Q.Can cats get through it from the gaps? Nov 12, 2014
A.Yes.. There is a gate for them at the bottom. My kitten uses it, but my tabby jumps the who gate!
Nov 12, 2014 by Terri Bradford
Q.What kind of Y spindle did you use with this gate? Oct 12, 2014
A.I didn’t. The pressure was good enough. My son was a year old and it kept him safe.
Oct 13, 2014 by B. Adams
Q.does it expand to 40 inches with the 6″ extension, or without? (so up to 46″ with?) Oct 3, 2014
A.Yes it does expand to 40″ with the extension. It is extremely easy to install.
Oct 3, 2014 by Tommie Autrey Hendricks
Q.does this work in the stairway? Aug 26, 2014
A.I think it would as long as you use the screws and caps for semi-permanent installation. It has extra peices that can be removed to be more narrow or added for wider areas. I love mine. It is exactly what I needed.
Aug 26, 2014 by P. Boyer
Q.Can I buy replacement rubber “feet”? (The pieces that hold the gate against the door frame on either side) Aug 21, 2014
A.I would think you should contact the manufacturer and tell them your problem. I would think they could send you replacements.
Aug 21, 2014 by Linda Bridges
Q.Is this gate suitable for the top of the stairs? Jul 11, 2014

Q.I’m trying to find a gate that will allow my kitten access but will keep my German Shepherd out. Will this work for that? Jun 8, 2014
A.If your kitten is small she might slide between the bars. Mine are afraid of the dog and refuse to slide through or leap over the gate.
Jun 10, 2014 by Paul
Q.This gate is too short to fit in my door and too long when I add the extension. My door’s about 30in wide. Can anything be done so it can fit? Jun 7, 2014
A.You can try to call the company and ask them what to do. Their number is on the instruction booklet. I did that when I had a problem and it really didn’t work out though. Best thing to do is to return it for a refund. Most complicated gate I’ve ever purchased.
Jun 9, 2014 by Shannon
Q.Will it work in 36 inch doorway Jun 3, 2014
A.I have mine in a 36 inch doorway. With the extension is comes with it works on my 42 inch hallway walls too.
Jun 3, 2014 by rich jameson
Q.Once wall mounted, is it easy to take down and put up if you are having company over? May 22, 2014
A.Yes once it is up, it is easy to take down. The 4 mounts that mount on the wall would have to stay unless you unscrewed them every time. The mounts are not very big.
May 22, 2014 by Travis
Q.When this is mounted at a doorway, can the door still close or will it interfere with the door knob? May 19, 2014
A.It will close as long as you don’t place it next to the door. I put mine in the middle of the doorway. Our cat looks at the gate and walks away. As long as he can see us he is ok.
May 19, 2014 by Victor F. Mastrandrea
Q.What’s the smallest this gate goes to? May 15, 2014
A.Hi, this gate is 41″ tall (a little more than 1m); you can adjust the opening from 29 to 40″; I had to adjusted at the maximum because my dog was able to open the door; this gate is pretty strong but my dog can jump very high, so it didn’t work for me however I believe this produc may work for little kids
May 15, 2014 by Brisa Pena
Q.Can the gate door stay open? Mar 21, 2014
A.Yes. The door is on a hinge so you can leave it open if you wish.
Mar 21, 2014 by R. West
Q.Does anyone know or use this as a gate on their outdoor deck to keep their dogs or cats from getting off? Would it be weather resistant? Mar 18, 2014
A.If it’ll fit within the opening of your deck, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, although you would have to be a bit more specific with your question. Weather resistant, depends if you live in a place that has bad weather Bc I’m sure it’ll rust over time if it’s rained on a lot.
Mar 18, 2014 by Sarah Grier
Q.At what height can you mount the gate? Mar 15, 2014
A.The gate is approximately 4 feet tall. I’m not sure exactly what your question is asking. The gate mounts at the top and the bottom.
Mar 15, 2014 by Kimberly Elmore
Q.How wide are the circles that push against the wall? Mar 14, 2014
A.1 inch diameter held in place with a small screw
Mar 14, 2014 by Carol S. Cates
Q.How wide are the circles that push against the wall? Mar 14, 2014
A.They are 1.5 inches in diameter. They can be painted. We needed the gate for when our son visits with his large Lab that loves to chase our cats. I painted the cups so I can leave them up when the gate is not needed.
Mar 14, 2014 by P. Hampel
Q.Will it fit a 29 in doorway Mar 10, 2014
A.It depends on how accurate your measurement is. Amazon says this will fit doorways 29 1/2 to 40 inches wide.
Mar 10, 2014 by W. Giles
Q.I am needing a gate like this for a 34″-wide opening. Will it fit? Mar 5, 2014
A.The gate should fit. The mounting brackets are adjustable.

Q.Does the red latch have a locking mechanism to prevent kids from opening it? Feb 9, 2014
A.Yes. It is a lock that I can easily open one handed, but my toddler is not strong enough to unlock it. He pulls his tot chair up to it and tries to open. Has not succeeded.
Feb 9, 2014 by C2J
Q.What the order. Contain exactly . And how many extantion the package have ( for the width )? Feb 7, 2014
A.one extra extension. I had a door width of 32 inches so I didn’t need to use it.

Q.which combination of gate and extension(s) would I need to span a 42″ space? I really like the gate and hope there is some combination that will fit. Dec 25, 2013
A.Reading the Regalo website, it says the extra tall gate goes 29-34 inches, and has a 6″ extension set. That still only gets you to 40″. If you don’t need the tall height, Regalo also sells an extra wide gate. That one is just regular height, though. Hope that helps.

Q.How wide a door does this fit Dec 5, 2013

Feb 19, 2014 by patrick hackett
Q.Space is 321/2 wide will gate adjust? Dec 2, 2013
A.The gate should fit in a 32 1/2″ width. If you need it a little wider you can just adjust the sides out another 1- 1 1/2″ for better fit. We love the gate.

Q.I need a gate to separate my two cats, ages 3 and 6, during their reintroduction. Are the spaces between the bars small enough for this? Nov 27, 2013
A.If they can jump well it won’t do you much good. If they are chubby kitties they won’t fit through. If they’re really skinny they will fit through. I use it to keep my dogs out of the kitchen. Personally I’d Just let them roam free together. I’ve got 4 cats the newest one acclimated quick, the one before that did too

Q.Would this work for a 40″ doorway? I noticed it only extends to about 36″ with the extensions but just want to make sure. Oct 9, 2013
A.I think it will with the extension piece

Q.How far apart are the bars? I have 10 lb Yorkie and I’m worried about her trying to squeeze through and getting stuck! Sep 9, 2013
A.I’m measuring about 2 1/2″ gap between bars. I don’t even see a cat slipping through them.

Q.I’ve seen some reviews that say the walk-thru is small. How wide is the walk-thru? Jan 12, 2013
A.16 inches wide. I am 6′ 1″, 265 pounds, with a 48″ waist, and turn slightly sideways to get through it. Once you adapt, it is fairly easy to get through it.

Q.Regalo tall gate: Any suggestions? May 12, 2012
A.I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking – this is indeed a tall gate which does not automatically close. Be aware that the walk-through area of this is pretty narrow, if you are intending on walking through it when it’s often open. Good luck!
