Q:What Size Screws Needed? (For a better Install) Can anyone tell me what size/length I should get?

A:

My husband used the screws that came with the gates and we have had no problems! He does recommend, however that you drill the pilot holes for the screws so as not to split any of your woodwork! These are by far the BEST gates that I have ever had! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!

Q:Could older children open this easily? I have a 7, 6 and 3 yr old that have their bedrooms in the basement but we have another baby on the way and want to know if you think older children would manage opening this gate on thier own.

A:

I don’t know about 3year old but two older kids would have no problem. It doesn’t take much strength. More that you have to be tall enough to pull the latch up and twist. We have two gates that get constant use and they are holding up well.

Q:What mat’l is the hardware? Steel or stainless? Can a magnet stick to it? Thanks

A:

Hinge and latch are steel and well built in my opinion. Magnets will stick to those parts but not to the gate itself.

Q:What is the measure of the spacing between bars?

A:

spacing is 2 3/4′s

Q:Can you open and close gate with one arm (with a baby in the other arm)?

A:

Yes, it is very easy to open and close with only one hand. Just pull up and turn to open, will latch itself when you swing it closed.

Q:Hi I bought this gate some time ago. But don’t remember if it’s safe to have up at the stairs for toddlers or small children

A:

Yes it is perfect for the top of the stairs b/c its wall mounted not pressure mounted ie: no bottom bar to trip over.

Q:Could this gate be used outdoors? I am looking for a gate to mount between my garage and fence to block a path from my dog.

A:

I think it could be mounted outdoors easily. That said, you might risk rust in a few places where the gate latches.

Q:How much space, width-wise, do you need to mount the gate on both sides? We bought a banister installation kit and it’s only 1.5 inches wide.

A:

On one side (the side the whole gate mounts to) 1.5″ would be enough. On the other side (the side for the latch/lock), you’ll need about 2.5-3″.

Q:Can you slide out the gate for times when you don’t want the gate up? ie: parties?

A:

Yep! You can take the gate part off and leave the hardware on the sides.

Q:Can you make this gate close without making a sound if you slowly close the latch by hand? We may put it near a bedroom.

A:

If you close it really gently, yes. I have done it many times

Q:Can this gate have a lock put on it so it doesn’t open?

A:

I think you could. The way you open it is you pull up and turn a bar that releases the gate. You could probably figure something out.

Q:How do you adjust the gates to fit different size doorways? Our gates were hand me downs and did not come with instructions…..

A:

There should be Allen Head screws in the middle of the gate where the two halves connect. Loosening those will allow the latch side of the gate to move in and out so you can make if fit most any doorway. If they were hand me downs you may not have received the Allen Wrench that came with the gate originally. Not sure what size it is but you can buy one just about anywhere.

Q:How strong is this gate if a grown up pulled on it for support, or if they fell on or against it?

A:

I fell against it, and it came out of the wall because the 1″ screws weren’t far enough into the stud behind the drywall. Now that I’ve used longer 1.5″ screws, it feels quite secure and I think it would stay. Since it’s only about 30″ high, and I’m over 6 feet tall, when I fell against it I actually tripped over it.

Q:Can this gate mount on an angle?

A:

If by that you mean an opening that is offset, then yes. If you mean on a hill, it probably wouldn’t work well

Q:How wide is door?

A:

Fully open it is 17.5 inches

Q:Can you leave the door open if desired?

A:

No. What I did was get bungie cords and use them to hold it open. Works perfect.

Q:The gate is advertised as 36″ tall, but at what height are the upper mounting points? My banister is only 35″ tall.

A:

The upper mounting points are 33″ high.

Q:How large are the wide openings at the bottom of the gate? I have cats and don’t want them to slip through.

A:

Some are 3″ x 3″ wide and some are 4″ wide by 3″ high. Probably enough for a small cat to at least get partway through. I would worry it could get stuck.

Q:Do the mounting knobs adjust enough to account for baseboards? Our opening is an inch or two narrower at the bottom than the top.

A:

Yes i have a home that was built in 1911 and they worked just fine. just make sure they are even. on both sides, it helps with the gate function and stability

Q:What is the width of the walk through gate itself (the opening the people walk through)?

A:

from latch to latch, mine is measuring 16 1/2 inches

Q:Does it really take 4-6 months to get this thing in bronze??? If so no chance I’m ordering this no matter what reviews say.

A:

That must be something new, I got mine within a week.

Q:Our hallway is 47 inches. Previous gate had extenders to extend width, but they failed with our 55 pound lab jumping on it. Opinions on the strength?

A:

I don’t think you will have a problem. It is very strong. We have a 41″ opening. Our 80lb lab and our 65lb Australian/German shepherd have not budged it. We have three of these gates and love them.

Q:moulding

A:

I’m assuming you’re asking how it works with moulding? Or IF it works with moulding? It mounts to the wall with 4 tension screws/pads so- you can either place the gate above the moulding (and have a few inchesof space below the gate) or place on the moulding –depending on the type. We have an older house with non-uniform curved moulding so we chose to place it a bit higher on the wall with a couple inches of space below the gate. There’s an option of permanently mounting this to the wall as well.

Q:What is the distance between the bars please?

A:

Between 1 & 1/2 inches to 2 & 1/2 inches. On both sides of the actual gate opening those areas are larger than the others.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:how does the gate open?

A:

On the one I bought and my husband installed, there is a little “thumb button” on the top of the railing on the left-hand side. I slide that button to the left and then pull the gate towards me. If yours is installed in the opposite direction then the little button would be on the right and you would either pull or push the gate open. Hope this helps. Love, peace, joy to you!

Q:Would it fit our 43.5 inch wide staircase?

A:

Yes it will.

Q:This gate only swings open one way? Or both ways?

A:

Only one way, for safety reasons. For example, if it were placed at the top of the stairs – it would not swing open towards the steps – just in case little miss perfect got lucky and managed to open it.

Of course, you can always unscrew it and turn it around to face the other direction if you like. Takes about 2 mins sober. There is no way to tell the difference, other than the direction the gate swings.

Good product.

Q:Does it damage the walls? I’ve had other baby gates that really wrecked the drywall.

A:

It does not damage the walls. This is actually the second one of these gates that we have purchased because they work so well.

Q:Can additional sections be ordered so the gate can be used in a wider space?

A:

There is another similar gate amazon has listed as “frequently bought together” that is up to 6 feet wide, I would think that is the one you want.

Q:Will this work with wrought iron railings at the top of a staircasej

A:

This has to be mounted against something flat and solid at the bottom and close to the top. I would guess your wrought iron railings are too thin for a silver dollar sized mount to tighten against them.

Q:Has anyone used this gate with two banisters at the top of their stairs?

A:

I have, and it is working out very well. I did have to use the round disc’s that screw into the wood, then mounted the gate. I am not using for children, but for (2) english bull dogs I mention this because they are both strong dogs totaling 140 lbs between them and they will push against the gate and jump on it. It holds like a champ. Unlike kids, they have not figured out how to open the latch. Hope this helps you.

Q:I need 3 gates: top & bottom of stairs and kitchen way. Would this be too tall for any of those? I have 1 tall and 2 regular I will be sending back.

A:

It lists the dimensions/height in the product info. Measure your height needed and compare.

Q:Would this gate mount to a metal banister?

A:

There is no mounting as it is supported by pressure. It comes with plastic caps which can be screwed into wall surface which only keep the pressure pads in place. If the metal banister is wide enough to have the 1 1/2 inch pressure pads against it, it should work.

Q:will it work if i have molding on the bottom of my doorway that sticks out about a inch and a half?

A:

It should. It’s adjustable at the top and bottom.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Will this fit a 33″ doorway? I am concerned the extensions may be to big or small like the last 2 gates I ordered..

A:

Yes I believe it will because it fits ours and we still have two extensions that I put away in case we decide to move the gate someday.

Q:Does the gate open in both directions?

A:

No it does not.

Q:Is this gate removable? I need a gate I can put up when my neice is visiting & take down when she leaves. It’s for a staircase so no pressure mount

A:

Yes, the gate is removable. We use it to contain pups and the granddaughter. It’s very nice, looks good.

Q:will my kids (age 4 and up) be able to open and close it easily? (I want them to be able to, the gate is to keep the dog out)

A:

The gate is excellent and attractive … surprisingly nice for the price. Based on my recollection, you have to push a mechanism on top and lift the gate a little to open. I think Age 4 and up should be able to handle it.

Q:Can gate be mounted at an angle? On one side, I want to attach it 5-6″ ahead of a straight line. If not, is there a similar item that would work?

A:

No. It’s all solid metal and the extensions connect with metal pins and screws. There is a larger gate that can be used at an angle but it is really wide so if your space is smaller than 42″ it might not fit

Q:How does this gate work with small dogs? I have a 6 pound yorkie/maltese mix and she’s figured out a way to wiggle out of our current gate.

A:

I have 2 13 lb bichons and there is no way they can squeeze thru the gate.

Q:The gate does not lock shut it will open with a slight push, am I doing something wrong? The tabs that would lock it in place go in with a very slight push on the gate.

A:

My gate you have to push tab and lift up on gate. You will need to tighten up gate. It should not open if you push in gate

Q:Will my cat be able to get past/over this? We need to keep the baby out but let the cat in (litter box is behind gate). If not, any ideas?

A:

If your door opening is large enough to use the extra panels (more than 25″) the cat should be able to get through. The extra extentions have 3 1/4 square openings. The gate looks nice and works well.

Q:Would it be OK for outdoor use, such as on a deck stairway?

A:

The gate is metal, so I’m thinking that it would not be good for wet/damp areas.

Q:How wide is the gate opening?

A:

The gate opening is 19 inches wide.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Does is fit a opening 37 wide? My concern is if the extension will be too big or too small for 37.

A:

Yes it does my opening is 39″, so it will fit much better with one extension on your door. Mine is a stairway it is on. I love this gate, remember it only opens one way so put it uo the way you want the gate to swing.

Q:what size are the spaces between the slots, I’m trying to keep my cat from getting through or over it, do you think it would work?

A:

Largest opening is two and a half inches. My cat will not try and jump this gate because it is not a solid surfcae. My cat can easily jump to the top of a six foot fence but has never attempted to jump this gate, and I think it is because of the slots. Your cat may squeeze through the 2 1/2″ slot but it needs to be skinny cat.

Q:I need the gate to fit a 54 inch opening. How wide is it with all the extensions in place?

A:

It goes up to 48″ with what comes in the box. They make other sizes as well.

Q:Can it be used outdoors

A:

The item is powder coated, the hinges are metal and plastic; if the weather is not too harsh, I believe it could be used outside.

Q:I have this going against a 34in high bar will it work? In other words, is it 36″ at center? If so, how tall is it at wall?

A:

34 inches at wall

Q:is the beige llight or more like brown

A:

Ours is brown.

Q:can this gate be used outdoors?

A:

You should ask the manufacturer this question.

Q:will this work on a 33 1/2″ opening.? I’ve ordered and return several. Some were too short and others were too long. Thanks so much

A:

It should. It has extension panels that you can use or not use depending on your need. We have fairly narrow doorways, so we didn’t use them. The description says 28-48″. You should be good to go. We love this gate. Just remember to use the tool provided to tighten the bars so it’s sturdy.

Q:does is work with cats

A:

Should work fine for adult cats. The slats have about 4 inches between them, so a kitten could probably wriggle through.

Q:how hard is it to open the gate? Will a 4 year old be able to open it?

A:

It is not that hard to open the gate but I used it for my dogs and not a 4 year old. You have to be able to push the button, pull up and push on the gate all at one time. Not sure about kids, it’s been a long time since I had one that small. Sorry I am not more help.

Q:Would it fit our 69 inch wide staircase?

A:

No. This would, though … http://www.amazon.com/Supergate-Deluxe-Dcor-Metal-Brown/dp/B005DOS2EE/ref=pd_bxgy_ba_img_y

Q:To Summer Infant. Could you list gates that auto-close and cover 42 inch wide? On more affordable side?

A:

The Summer Infant gate is an auto-close gate and does extend to 42 inches and beyond if needed. It is also an attractive gate. It has worked very well for when our grandchildren are visiting. We love it and I would definitely recommend it. It is strong, attractive and does the job!

Q:Mine does not automatically shut, ever, and it also does not require use of the button on top to open it. Is there something wrong with it?

A:

No

Q:Does it open both ways?

A:

Yes

Q:Can anyone comment on how durable this is for dogs that like to destroy things? Our dog tore up his plastic crate, and hoping to use this instead.

A:

Very durable …. I didn’t expect for it to be as awesome as it is… Highly recommend it….

Q:The bottom of the gate does not lock automatically. We had to push it in. No matter how we adjust it.. Any suggestions?

A:

If the gate is not level it will not lock. Check that both sides and all angles are level.

Q:My opening is 48″ wide. Does this gate expand that wide with extensions to fit secure without being flimsy unlike other brands?

A:

Yes

Q:Can I use this gate outside on a porch or do you believe it would rust?

A:

It is probably not meant for outdoors but if on a porch where it would not get direct rain I believe it would be ok. I would definately spray it with an outdoor clear enamel spray paint.
Mine is inside so I can’t swear it would be ok but I personally would give it a try

Q:Is there a purpose to the release button? The gate does need to be lifted to open, however, it can be lifted without the release button.

A:

If installed the intended way, with the intended tension, the gate will not open unless the release button/switch is also used. You can install it in a way that doesn’t require that, however I found that the gate won’t latch shut on its own otherwise (needs to be purposefully closed rather than just allowing the gate to swing closed on its own).

Q:49 and 1/4 inch doorway. Any other extensions available? Could I possibly rig a wood panel/wood extension to the wall then install?

A:

We bought 2 of these and you can combine extensions to make it wider, however the gate tends to flex as it gets wider. I wouldn’t extend it over the spec if it were to be placed at the top of stairs.

Q:can a two year old open?

A:

I don’t think so…it does require some ability and trick to open it…

Q:Has anyone tripped on this gate due to the metal bar on the bottom?

A:

We have only had the gate for a few days, but no we have not tripped. It is excellent. We had a gate that we did trip over. This is super easy and I really like it.

Q:can a child open this gate?

A:

Depends on the age. It is pretty tricky because you have to hold a latch and pull up at the same time. It’s a really great gate!

Q:can gate be used outside

A:

I would say yes it is finished nicely and I think it would hold up pretty well to the weather

Q:Does Summer Infant make a spindle addapter?? All descriptions say this gate can be used on stairs, but I can’t find an adapter anywhere.

A:

I’m not the authority on these gates, but I seem to recall seeing an adapter for that available online. Imagine a piece of angle iron with the spindle is pressed into the inside corner. It was like that. Anyway, nothing like that comes in the kit, but they’re out there to retrofit. Of that I’m sure. I’ve also seen parents forgo the end fittings, bringing the gate itself up to the spindle, using several zip ties to secure it. That certainly works although the end look isn’t as clean.

Q:has anyone used this for the bottom of stairs. does it work?

A:

It did not work for me, andI had to send it back. I only used it upstairs, and it is perfect.

Q:Is the mounting hardware really mounting brackets to screw the gate into the wall, or is it screwing non-skid cups in the wall and relying on tension?

A:

Its a pressure mounted gate, the non skid caps screw into the gate, the caps are against the inside of the door frame. It does not harm the wood on door frame. My 100 lb German shepherd can’t get through it.

Q:Could a cat slip between the bars?

A:

no not unless its a really small cat! they are about 2 1/2 figers width apart.

Q:What’s the clearance between the lower tension knobs and floor? Will it clear my 3/4″ quarter round molding on the floor?

A:

No. But we solved the problem by putting the gate on 3/4 ” plywood.

Q:Can it fit a 51″ opening? Do I need to order extension parts separately?

A:

It come with 2 extensions but even with extensions it only fits 48″ opening. I dont know if they offer extra extensions

check-price-on-amazon
Q:can you purchase extentions

A:

Two come with it, but I’m not sure if you can purchase additional ones.

Q:Has anyone else had a hinge break? Did you have any luck getting a replacement part?

A:

Have not had any problem with my gates….I have two.

Q:How many days does shipping take?

A:

Q:how many days it take to arrive

A:

Q:why is there so much exposed screw threads?341/2 to 35 in. doorway?are there smaller extentions ?i need about 2-21/2 in. extention..it looks terrible!

A:

Mine is in a smaller swinging door and I didn’t need the extensions

Q:How would I “fixed” mount this at the top of my stairs when I have a banister on one side?

A:

I am sorry I do not know as I mounted mine in a doorway.

Q:Hi there. What’s the point of the button at the top. It doesn’t seem to do anything.

A:

the gate has spring loaded knobs at the top and the bottom, this is how you get a snug fit in the door frame. if you tighten the knobs enough the button on the top of the gate will release the door from the lock position. you would still need to push the gate open. I do not use this button. I find the door is secure without tighten the knobs that much.

Q:With extensions, the fit is 48 inches. Does the 48 inches max. width INCLUDE the space required by the tension nuts/bolts on either side…??

A:

C’est: Yes, it includes some distance of the bolts. You don’t want to extend them to max length or then one hard push on the gate will make it buckle and fall down. In my opinion, the munchkin easy-close extra tall and wide gate is FAR superior and gets you and extra 3.5 inches. If you read my review on the summer gate it lists all the reasons why. … hope that helps.

Q:how does the latch/handle work? will my 33 month old be able to easily open the door?

A:

Very unlikely. In addition to the latch, you need to pull upward and then toward you. Just pulling toward you won’t open it.

Q:How far apart are the bars?

A:

I’m not certain. A little narrower than the width of a cat head.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:what is the gate made of

A:

Metal

Q:Can this be mounted on angled surfaces?

A:

Are the “angled surfaces” parallel? The mounting screws provide a small bit of wiggle room, and the pads for staircase mounting can be used for greater stability. However, this is essentially a straight line design.

Q:Is this gate easy to install and remove on a daily basis? I need a gate I can put away when I’m home.

A:

This would be rather cumbersome to install and uninstall daily.

Q:can this gate be disassemble

A:

The gate is one piece and no, it is one piece. Same with the two side pieces.

Q:What is the width between each pole? I need to keep my cats from going upstairs.

A:

That’s exactly what we use it for. Pickets are approx 2 and a 1/4 inches apart. I have an 8 lb himalayan cat and 7 lb pomeranian dog. Neither can get thru and no possiblity of them getting stuck trying. Hope this helps

Q:How loud/soft is the auto-close feature for the gate? We have a very light sleeper!

A:

It’s loud!

Q:my opening is 39 inches; my cat is small and may slip between bars what is width at widest point? thanks

A:

If you have a small cat this isn’t the one for you . Go see if you can enlarge the photo of this gate. Look at the bottom. A small cat can get thru the squares at the bottom.
I like this gate a lot . Idea – you could line it one the one side with mesh fabric to keep the cat out. I am a seamstress and have mesh fabric and since I have a gate I could make the mesh screen for you that fits perfectly . If you are I interested email customcheryl@comcast .net and we can chat

Q:We would like to use the gate to block a stairway. Our concern is someone tripping over the bottom frame. Is it possible to install without it?

A:

No it’s not possible to install without it.

Q:Will this gate fit a 27 inch opening or am I outta luck?

A:

Maybe if you permanently mount it? If you take the adjustable pads off and screw it into the frame…just an idea, no guarantees!

Q:The description says that gate swings both ways but some of the answered questions says it does not. Does it open both ways or only one way?

A:

My unit swings one way. However, I have one side against the bottom stair so that allows it to only go one way which is outward.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Will this fit a 57″ space?

A:

No it can’t The widest spread is 48 inches. The munchkin extra wide/tall gate w/ 4 extensions can go to 54+”.
read my review on the summer gate and you might be persuaded to go for the big munchkin gate if it works in your space. I think it’s a better product.

Q:can i buy extentios

A:

Not sure if you can buy extensions, but gate is large enough to cover 4 feet.

Q:Will it extend for 60 in opening?

A:

The paperwork says: Fits openings 28″ – 48″ wide and stands tall at 36″ but you might want to look because I think there are extensions to it. I just go this one shown and don’t use the two side pieces in picture.

Q:Can the gate be installed at the bottom of the stairs? (hopefully to stop my 60lb dog from going upstairs)

A:

Gate needs a firm, flat surface at both ends. Do you have a newel post that has a flat surface that the gate (or extension) can butt up against?

Q:How far apart are the circular mounts from middle of the circle bottom – middle top? We have 34″ of space minimum needed so it’s not attached to the circular part of the banister.

A:

Approximately 32″

Q:will my 40# dog be able to push this over to get out of the kitchen where he will be confined? suggestions?

A:

I have no real data to go on here, but knowing dogs, a determined 40-pounder has a real chance of defeating this gate. I’d go for one designed for dogs rather than babies. I know they’re available.

Q:In the description it says that it fits doorways 28-48 inches wide. Does it stretch, or get wider for wider doorways?

A:

Hello-
It has panels that attach to the wider doorways . We aren’t using them at this time, so have them stored in the box.

Q:In a 30 inch opening, how wide would the gap along the walls be? I have a 4lb maltese that can squeeze through some pretty small openings.

A:

The gate and hinges (including the mounting brackets) are about 27 1/4″ wide. The gap between the last post and the wall is 1/2″ . You won’t be able to use even 1 extra four inch gate panel, so you’ll have to make up the difference by moving itty bitty tiny (on the picture) mounting blocks on the outside of each corner. They extend to fill your gap by screwing out and extending. By my estimation (and I could be wrong) that leaves almost a 2″ gap on either side.

Q:Is anyone using this outside on a deck? How does it hold up in the weather?

A:

Using inside, I doubt the material will hold weather conditions being outside. I foresee rust.

Q:Can the mounting brackets allow for adjustment up to 49.5″ even though the listing says the gate can only cover a 48″ opening?

A:

It comes with one 9″ and two 4″ extensions. If you were able to order another 9″ extension, then you would be able to use one 4″ and two 9″ extensions to make it fit.

Q:Can the extensions be used to offset the door to one side?

A:

Yes

Q:slat width

A:

there is no slat larger than 2″ that is the maximum slat size….here is the breakdown…the slats in the center of the gate are 2″…the slats on the side where the gate locks is just short of 1″ and the slats on the side where the hinge is and where it connects to the wall on the other side is just short of 2″.

Q:Can this gate be used outside

A:

You need two strong sides to put the tension on the gate so not sure it could be used outside unless it was like in a door way that led to an outside space.

Q:Where do I get the details which are screwed to the wall on a top of the stair? Do I have to order them separately or do they come with the gate?

A:

my husband installed ours, but I believe everything came with, and ours is screwed into the wall.

Q:can it be used with small dogs?

A:

Yes

Q:Our opening is EXACTLY 48″–will the gate be SECURELY attached at its maximum extension using the pressure mounts for a VERY STRONG toddler?

A:

It won’t be as strong as you want it to be, fully extended. I set a 1″x2″ piece of wood on either side. They are not secured to the wall, just using the pressure of the screws to hold them in place. Stands up great to my 43 pound, extremely active puppy.

Q:Does this gate work with a door way, (not a hallway), where there is a door?

A:

Yes. It will fit in a regular door way. It seems to work nicely no matter where you put it.

Q:suitable outdoor use?

A:

It is very sturdy however my concern would be if it was left outside in elements for long periods of time it might rust.

Q:Does it attach to banisters?

A:

That was the main reason we got it. We didn’t want to drill into ours and it worked perfectly.

Q:can this be used outdoors?

A:

I would not recommend it for outdoor use unless you live in a very dry region.

Q:Is the latch noisy or quiet?

A:

It’s very quiet. The loud part is if you let the gate slam shut as it’s spring loaded.

Q:can it be mounted onto a banister

A:

I don’t think so. My friend who installed mine had to remove the base shoe from my floor to set it up. He said he could not mount it above it. Hope that helps.

Q:just wondering about the opening size along the bottom. We are getting for small dog and are hoping she wont wiggle thru while a pup, thanks

A:

As discribed.

Q:How wide (diam) are the round pads that touch the door opening?

A:

About an inch… 1-1.5 inch. Not too bad. I have two of those gates they rock for dogs. Have a german shepherd and small dog.

Q:I am thinking of purchasing this for an outside patio with openings down steps to the yard. The openings are approximately 40 inches wide.Thoughts?

A:

I absolutely love this gate. I would use it for indoor and outdoor needs. It is very sturdy and it comes with extensions. Right now I have it in a 36 inch door way and I don’t have all the extensions on it.

Q:Is there a way to keep the latch UNLOCKED or Opened Sometimes without uninstalling it?

A:

Yes simply lift up the gate gentle and push it forward. Works great

Q:Is hardware necessary? I refer a gate where I dont have to screw it into the wall. Please let me know!

A:

It can be done with either screws ( I didn’t to this option) I used the tension method…It includes hardware for both options. Looks great!

Q:Is the gate adjustable so that the top and bottom mounts on the same side can be different widths by a couple of inches?

A:

Yes ! each tiny mount is individually adjustable so you could potentially have four different widths. :) hope this helps !

Q:can this be used outdoors for deck stairs ? wondering if this gate withstand outdoor weather conditions?

A:

I would say no. It’s amazing quality but I would imagine that it would rust if used outside.

Q:Is this good for the outdoors. I have a side gate people tend to leave open, hoping to use this as a second gate. So my dog won’t run out.

A:

Because this gate is metal, I would think it would rust too easy outdoors. Perhaps others can chime in.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Is the given height from floor to top of door? What is the height of the extensions? I need it to fit under the overhang of my kitchen counter.

A:

This was a gift-sorry don’t know the answer.

Q:How far apart are the bars? My puppy slipped through the first one I purchased.

A:

About an inch and a half. No way a puppy could fit through. My toddler can’t even fit his little feet through.

Q:Would a 3-4 month old kitten fit through the bars?

A:

Probably not. Well, the bottoms squares may be iffy but you could block it off.

Q:how large are the square openings that run along the bottom of the gate? I have a 9wk old puppy that may slip through if too wide.

A:

Me too. Have Pom puppies I need to contain. Love the style and look of the gate, but sure they will squeeze through bottom. Too bad. Gate would have been just as stylish if top rungs were just continued down. They would have sold a lot of these to toy dog owners because the other rungs are so close together!! Going to see if this company has a similar model that might work.

Q:I need it for an outdoor porch opening the is about 70 inches, can we buy extensions?

A:

Could but it would likely be too wobbly at that width. Buy the wider version of the gate.

Q:is it hands free

A:

Not hands free

Q:Can it be used outside to keep dogs on the porch?

A:

I use it inside so really not sure. It is metal so if it should get wet could rust I suppose. It is nice and tall so dogs cannot jump over it.

Q:Can you use pressure mount with baseboards? Will baseboards be an issue in general?

A:

I use it in a doorway that is smooth all the way down but a bit lop-sided due to being an old home. What helps with that is I installed the cups that screw into the wall for the stairway mounting kit. It gives the gate pressure mounted circles a place to fit into and even with a giant dog leaning on the gate at times it has stayed in place. Not sure u want to drill into a baseboard but its a small screw hole. Hope that helps.

Q:We are planning to put this at the bottom of our stairs bracing it with the stair banisters. Is this a tension mount or does it require drilling?

A:

Tension mount. It is equipped with caps that can be screwed into the wall to hold the mounts, but I did not use them and the tension mounts holds the gate securely.

Q:Can this be used outside under a covered deck?

A:

We have this gate in our hallway to contain our very large and boisterous golden retriever.
It is an absolutely awesome gate.
I can’t see why it wouldn’t work under a covered deck.
Perhaps you should check with the manufacturer to inquire about rust resistence.
Otherwise, I highly recommend this gate.
Oh yes, I should add it looks good too, way better than the plastic type.

Q:Can this be used for outside use without rusting?

A:

I don’t think so. the finish is nice for inside but not the normal outdoor finish

Q:Will this fit a hallway that is 47″ ? Another gate I got wouldn’t because it was either too big or too small with any of the extensions.

A:

Yes, however, that stretches it out to it’s full extent and the gate becomes unsteady, easy to dislodge. My entrance is 47 1/2. I added a 1/2″ X 1″ piece of wood to each side (1″ flat against the wall) the height of the support arms. You have to be looking for it in order to detect the wood. It’s definitely more stable and keeps my 35 lb boxer puppy where I want her. Even when she’s excited to get to me on the other side.

Q:can the optional mounting kits be purchased?

A:

I think they have additional, optional mounting kits that may be purchased but there are four mounting sets that come with the gate and also two full extensions included with the gate. I used the permanent mounting option with the adhesive and screws because it is a high traffic area at the bottom of stairs. It does not shift at all and is very secure.

Q:How would we attach this at the top of our stairs outdoors? It’ll need to be attached to metal railing and I’d prefer to use hardware (not tension).

A:

It’d be tough. You’ll be better off buying something else.

Q:I’m looking for a safe solution for our apartment balcony, which has an open doorway with stairs. Would this be secure for that use?

A:

It might close off the open doorway, depending upon the sides of the door but this is attached only by pressure points. Any force could knock it away. It is really a good solution as a pet restraint but I would not count on it to be secure on an open stairwell.

Q:Does this color match the bronze Summer Infant wide gate?

A:

I believe it is the same color. They look practically alike. I use mine for a dog, but it can be used for infants too I am sure. I love this gate. Very sturdy built. Metal instead of plastic. I would recommend this gate.

Q:Is this gate good for outside use?

A:

I LOVE this gate, BUT I’m not sure it’s recommended for the outside elements. If you plan on putting it up and removing the same day I’m sure you would be ok :) Possibly check with the manufacturer.

Q:Has anyone used this for a 50″ top of stairs location. I am wondring if i used the Y spindle on one side i could get the extra 2″ i need?

A:

Sorry I have not.

Q:can a three year old easily open this?

A:

Depends on the child. It has a sliding clip that keeps it hinged on the top. If the gate becomes uneven (top tighter or looser than the bottom) it is easy to push open without using the latch. Some children see a gate and think they’re stuck on their side of it. While others are very inquisitive and mechanically inclined. If your child is the latter, I wouldn’t rely on this gate.

Q:do you sell ones that are this color and taller, I need atleast 41 inches high

A:

Hello,

Unfortunately this is the tallest we have.

Thank you,
Babyhaven

Q:I’m using this gate at the top of the stairs, one side attaching to the wall the other side attaching to rod iron railing. Will this gate work?

A:

We use ours at the top of the stairs as well, attached to a wall on one side, and a wooden stairway bannister on the other side. This will work if you have enough of a flat surface on the iron railing to use as a brace for the hardware mounts. Flatter is better, although we were able to tighten ours enough against the curved bannister for a good fit.

Q:how wide does it expand to?

A:

We used this gate at the top & bottom of our stairs. The stair openings are 3′ 2″. The gate comes with an extra 9″ panel. That makes the gate almost 4′. It also has adjustable padded screws at top & bottom of gate to secure it into position. I’m very confident you could use this gate in a 4′ opening very easily. Hope this helps. Happy shopping.

Q:My opening is 46.5 inches. Will this fit?

A:

The gate is expandable to much larger sizes than just a standard size. It goes to 48 inches – it has 4 extra pieces to attach to make it much wider. When you put it in – it’s going to look wonky where the gate closes. Once you make it square from bottom/top side to side it works great. It comes with an easy simple measure tool printed on the side of the enclosed tool. I got 2 and love them both. Keep in mind you could probably paint them a better color if you wanted.

Q:is the sprayer plastic or metal?

A:

What is the sprayer? The whole gate is metal, but that little black thing that stops it is plastic.

Q:In a 36″ opening, how wide will the gap along the wall be? I want to make sure my small dogs cannot squeeze through.

A:

Small dogs should not be a problem. There are different size panels in the box, you probably would have an inch or less on with either side. This is a great good looking gate. Read instructions and special notes on labels before installing.

Q:Had this gate for a couple years now. Wanted to use somewhere else for the dogs but to short. Is their somewhere I can buy an additional section?

A:

Sorry I don’t know

Q:Does the gate hold up well using only using the tension rods (not using the screws) for baby/toddler use? The area I’m using it is 43 inches wide.

A:

It does. It’s how we we have it installed. I have had the gate since last November and 2 weeks ago our 4 yr old lost (or found) her temper and slammed the gate closed. It broke the plastic piece and now the dogs and push the gate open and get into the kitchen. Otherwise it kept the dogs out just using the tension rods. German shepherd and a small mixed mutt.

Q:can you loosen tension on bottom lock?

A:

Both top and bottom of gate have their own tension rods.

Q:what size opening will it fit?

A:

I have it on a stairway.. Appro x 36″

Q:Is the gate good for outdoor use, through all four seasons?

A:

I would certainly use it in an outdoor setting. You may need to check once in awhile for signs of rust that may develop, but overall, I would use it outdoors. With that being said, I’m only making this statement based upon the region (Southeast) I live in. Our seasons are not typically as harsh as others. I have received many compliments on this gate. I use it for gating my dog in my office at work and everyone remarks on the high quality, ease of use and how sturdy it is. Hope this helps?

Q:would this fit in a 36 inch opening ?

A:

Q:The width of our upper stair case is about 38.Will we be able to mount this gate if the area where it could be mounted is between 34-36 inches?

A:

Q:How wide are the circles that push against the wall?

A:

Q:The bottom of the gate looks to be wide enough for my 5 pound cat to get through…do you know how wide those openings are?

A:

Q:Our opening is 48 1/2″ would it be able to accommodate the extra 1/2″?

A:

Q:how wide will gate go

A:

Q:I need a replacement hinge for the top….Where can I find one?

Q:can it be used on banisters

A:

Sorry, not sure where you are asking if it can be used but ours is at the very beginning of going up the stairs. One side can be attached to the stair post and the other side to the wall. Hope that helped!

Q:on thesummer extra tall gate that 48 wide can i buy extra extentios?

A:

I’m not sure, however it fits my 43 inch hall

Q:Would a 5 year old be able to open this? We need a gate our older daughter can open to get to her room.

A:

To open, you have to push a tab at the top of the gate and lift the gate up. Some Height and coordination is involved but most 5 yo should be able to handel it

Q:does this gate work well with stair banisters? like on top/bottom of stairs?

A:

It would work fine if you have a rectangular post, but you really don’t want to screw into those normally. Pressure should be fine for the bottom of the stairs, but not the top. I bought this (rather expensive) kit that allows you to take a round or rectangular banister section and pressure or screw in the gate extra securely without damaging the banister. It works wonderfully for us and looks nice. The gate is nice and strong and I found it was well worth the price!

Q:I know that the description states the width to be between 28″ and 48″ but I have an opening that is 27.7″ wide. Would I be able to squeeze it in?

A:

I can’t say for sure, but I did measure my gate without the extensions, and it was a tiny bit over 25 1/2 inches wide. Then you have the adjustable pressure mounts to consider as well. ( Mine are sticking out about 1.5″ on each side, but I have a 47″ opening. ) Wish I could be of more help! It is a great gate, if you can get it to fit. My favorite of the 3 different brands I have.

Q:can a tiny dog get through the squares on the bottom of the gate they seem really big ?

A:

I dont think so! They are tiny squares. Maybe a mouse but not a dog! :)

Q:I’m not sure if the pressure mounts will be sturdy enough if my 65lb dog jumps aginst the gate. Can it be attached to the wall more securely?

A:

if you had the gate mounted in a hallway you could attach blocks to the wall beside the mounts but if the gate is installed in a door way there wouldn’t be room for reinforcements

Q:where do I get another extension

A:

Hi Gary; I don’t know why Amazon sent your question to me, since I am a customer, not the manufacturer or distributor. You might want to check with the company that makes them.

Q:I realize it says 48 inches max, but would the mounts extend enough to closed a 49 inch opening without modifying the frame?

A:

No. The max 48″ is with the mounts extended as far as possible. I’d suggest buying a gate that extends further or drilling a 2″ wooden block into the wall where you expect to mount the gate. When the mounts are extended to their max they become wobbly and can easily be pushed over.

Q:I have a 46.6 opening. Do the extensions to fit this width come with the purchase or will I need to buy extra extensions for this?

A:

What you see in the picture is exactly what you get.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Does this gate lock?

A:

There is no lock/unlock feature but you have to depress a button and pull up in order to open it. We use it for our dog so I can’t vet how child proof it is. But in my opinion, it would be very difficult for a child to open since its a taller gate and pulling up while depressing the button requires height and some strength.

Q:Bottom latch keeps sticking: can’t open door without lifting it a little. How to fix?

A:

As dumb as it sounds, I think that was purposefully designed into the gate. Little kids can push but they don’t think to lift. My grandson works hard to get through the gate but it holds every time. I like the extra safety of the lift.

Q:color

A:

It’s bronze but not metallic. More like a brown.

Q:How wide is the door opening?

A:

It’s about 18″

Q:Does this work well when attached to a banister?

A:

I haven’t used it with a banister myself, so I don’t know. I would assume that if you correctly tighten the torsion screws it would be fine.

Q:stair

A:

The gate works TERRIFIC on stairs. I have a one & three year old and neither one of them can open the gate. You need to press BACK the release button & LIFT the gate in order to open it. The kids CANNOT OPEN IT!

Q:Can this gate be used outdoors?

A:

It’s great indoors…we have several….don’t know if they’d hold up outdoors in bad weather, however…sorry…

Q:Can we use this as a gate on our stairs outside our home? We live in Honolulu.

A:

Not without adapters that you have to buy separately. It’s fine on the solid wall side, but to grasp the spindles on the open side you’ll need the adapters. But remember when you install it, the gate only swings one way, so test before installing.

Q:the picture itself look like 1 whole gate, does it have extensions on it? and if so do they come with the gate?

A:

The gate as pictured is utilizing one extension on each side. Two extensions per side are included. That gives you a lot of flexibility. We have had our gates not for a couple of months and they are great! My 95 lbs 10 month Rhodesian Ridgeback is very persistent and the gates are very secure.

Q:would this work on a 43.5 opening?

A:

Yes, I just measured it with the extra pieces and you will just make it.

Q:I need a taller version of this to fit inside of a 32 inch door frame, for my dogs. (At least 40-48″ in height.) Do you have or know of anything that

A:

Unfortunately, we only have as listed on Amazon.

Q:Does the door shut by it self or do you have to shut it close? I have a miniatur pinch , she is pretty skinny will she fit through?

A:

The Door will shut on own if not full open. This is how my little one’s foot got his foot pinned. The openings are about 3-4 inches wide. It should be ok for animals as long as they cannot fit through the bars. Its just not save for little crawlers if the latch gets broken or if you have an older child that is easily figured out. Also they learned if they shook the gate it unlached. This item in my opinion is not good or safe for children.

Q:Will the gate work/stay in place if placed between a banister and a wall without having to add anything to hold it in place?

A:

It needs a secure place to attach at both the top and bottom of the gate on both sides. Without a picture, not sure how to answer your question.

Q:What is the height of the top pressure mounts (not the gate overall)? One side of my stairs has a short (35″) wall, will the gate fit?

A:

It’s about 33 1/2″. It’s a really good gate. Very well made. I’d go for it.

Q:We either can open the gate too easily (w/o needing release button), or when we tighten slightly we cannot open at all! Help??

A:

Do you know that you have to push back the release button and lift up the swinging part of the gate slightly in order to open it? The combination of these actions makes the gate harder to open for toddlers … creating a safer gate.

Q:My space is 39″ wide. The manual says to use the gate with the 9″ extension. Can I use the 2 – 4.5″ extensions so gate is centered?

A:

No it’ll be offset a bit. We had to use the extensions for the top of our stairs. It’s off center by about 2-3 inches.

Q:handle

A:

You can open it with one hand by lifting up on the gate

Q:will this gate fit 47″ opening?

A:

From the website….it says this product fits IP to a 48″ opening.

Q:is the gate adjustable? our doorway is just under 6 ft.

A:

It is adjustable, but not to that extent. I used mine on a stair well that is 45 inches (3′ 9″) wide and had to bolster each side with doubled up 2 x 6 stained wood to make the gate work. However, I did have unused additional inserts to widen it if needed.

Q:How far will the adjustment screws extend? Width needs to be 44 1/2″. Do the adjustments come out 4″, combined from each side? Thank You!

A:

Yes, the opening I instslled the gate in is 45″, and iy works beautifully.

Q:What color is it?

A:

It’s a silver/ bronze color

Q:does it work with spindles

A:

I’m using it in a doorframe, but if there are posts- i don’t see why it wouldn’t work!!

Q:does the gate have a stay open feature?

A:

It does not.

Q:does the gate swing both ways?

A:

Yes it swings both ways.

Q:can this gate be used outdoors?

A:

It is out of medal so it might possibly rust, not sure.

Q:I need a gate that can be attatched to metal railings on the top and bottom of stairs. Can this gate do that with more than just the pressure mount?

A:

To answer your question yes it can. I saw a picture on line where a person put a wood block between the rail and the pressure plate.

Q:if the opening is exactly 48″ will it work??

A:

Yes it will the adjustment bolts will get you close

Q:Can this be used outdoors?

A:

From the looks of the finish, I would feel that you could use this outdoors. Maybe not a great idea to put it somewhere in full sun or rain.

Q:Is this gate safe to use outdoors? Is it waterproof?

A:

I use it outdoors and it is waterproof. The coloring is fading a bit but other than that the gate works perfectly outside!

Q:Are you able to use the y spindle attachment for this gate

A:

Not sure what you are talking about. I used everything except for extra gate sections.

Q:Is the gate hard for toddlers to open?

A:

It is for our toddlers both 4yrs old. They have to lift the gate door and push the button… the gate is also very easy to install and swings one direction to open. I am pleased with the overall purchase and would recomend it. :)

Q:Can it be used outdoors?

A:

My guess is that it is made of painted steel. The adjuster bolts would probably rust first. The paint seems well applied, so the gate itself probably wouldn’t rust for awhile. The overall appearance is really very nice. Hope this helps.

Q:The actual door opening looks fairly narrow, what is the measurement of the walk-thru area with the door open?

A:

It’s about 18″ when open.

Q:I have a space in my home that is 50 inches wide. Is the gate itself 48 inches, or does it only expand a total of 48 inches with the pressure rods?

A:

I don’t know, however, I will go home and check mine. Our gates are installed in a 36 inch door frame without the extensions. I will followup for you.

Q:Can recent buyers please advise of exact color?

A:

It’s a deep chocolate brown. In certain lights it has almost a green tint to it. But I only noticed that when I had it in direct sun-light. It’s nice and neutral.

Q:extensions only: Does anyone know where I can buy just an extension for this gate?

A:

Same question / need here! I urgently need to find Extensions ONLY for this exact Extra Tall Decorative gate but can’t find them ANYWHERE and looks like Summer Infant doesn’t event sell these as accessories nor replacement parts! Please help!

Q:I was wondering if it will fit a 40 inch doorway? Some gates say they can fit up to 48 in., but there’s a slight gap somewhere.

A:

The instruction manual says that one configuration fits 36.5-39, and another configuration fits 41-43.5. If you have a 40″ door, you would use the smaller configuration, but the tension bolts would not be in the frame very far — I wouldn’t consider it safe.

Q:will this fit a door space 38 inches wide

A:

Yes, we have it in a 42″ space..will fit up to 48″. It’s a great gate!

Q:What stairway gate mounting system are people using with this gate?

A:

Sorry, I didn’t put it on a stairway, but I really like it in the doorway

Q:Good for dogs?

A:

It has worked for our Siberian Husky (60 lbs.). We are blocking stairs, so the makes it hard to jump. If it was an entry with room to run on both sides, he could probably jump it. It depends on the dog agility, the handler, and the location of the gate. It is sturdy and easy to install.

Q:Is the height measured to the top of the side rails or to the top of the gate? It looks as if the gate is 2″-3″ taller than the rails.

A:

The Heighth is the center point/the Door. I am 5’5 and it went to my waist.

Q:Can I buy an extension for this gate?

A:

I don’t know if they come separate, but here is how I’m using it and how I plan to extend for another placement in my home. The gate comes in several pieces, the main gate and a couple of extensions. For my doorway I use the main gate plus one extension. I’m going to place one in my hallway entry which is much wider. My idea is I will buy another set and then put up that main gate attached to all the extensions it comes with plus the other extensions from my first gate. I hope that makes sense. Have a great day!

Q:will this gate be able to contain a 5lb chihuahua? or will he be able to squeeze through it?

A:

If the chihuahua is 5 pounds and four feet long, it might squeeze through. Seriously, the widest gap is 2.5 inches with most at 1.5 inches. Measure the pup.

Q:What is the height and width of the step over bar at the bottom of the gate?

A:

It’s 1.25″ tall and 0.75″ wide. It sits flush on the carpet. It spans about 16″ clear to walk through. Previous answer of 18″ does not take into consideration the opening hinge or closing latch. It’s still easy to navigate though.

Q:I have seen one entry that says the gate swings only one way-and another entry that it swings two ways. Please advise which is correct?

A:

You can choose which direction you would like it to swing. So you could choose to have the door swing open toward you or you could change it to swing out when you open it. There is a black latch that catches the door and locks it which prevents the ability to swing both ways so you would have to choose your preference. You can also choose which side you would like it to open from, the left or the right.

Q:how large are the openings between the bars? I have a kitten that I want to keep separate, but needs narrow bars so he doesn’t crawl thru.

A:

The bars are exactly two inches apart. I small young kitten could probably squeeze through. Our full grown cat just jumps over it.

Q:I have a 50″ opening, and I’d really rather not go with a hardware mounted gate – will this gate fit a 50″ opening, or is that unreasonable?

A:

Not a problem for me! I used it at the bottom of front stair in the foyer. It measures 48″. Super sturdy and looks great! Definite yes ;). Hope this helps

Q:can this be used for stairs?

A:

ABSOLUTELY. We live in a 3 story condo & have a gate at the top of each of the stairs.

Q:can it be put between a inside door and outside door so my dogs can’t run out when I answer the door ?

A:

Yes, I ‘m sure it would work. Ours is in a doorway at the top of our stairs, and we can still close the door when the gate is in.

Q:will this fit a 34″ doorway?

A:

Yes, it’s adjustable up to 36″ and a fantastic gate! We have it on our deck and love it!!

Q:I have a 30″ door opening with the door attached. Will this fit and will my 8# Yorkie get through the openings?

A:

Yes you can attach to frame of door using tension rod, no drilling holes required. The gap between each bar is 2 inches. It comes with 3 panels to fit you door opening. You mix & match them according to your needs.

Q:I need to attach one side to a metal bannister, about one inch square, the other side is drywall. Do I need an adapter for bannister? Which one?

A:

Yes you need an adapter for the banister. Sorry I don’t know which one, but I thought when shopping I saw one made by Summer. Anyway, to give you an idea of how the gate attaches, there is a hole about 3/8-1/2″ that a threaded pin with a nut threaded on it and with a flat pad on the end goes into. Tightening the nut slides the pin further out of the hole/ puts pressure to the pad. So a flexible banister would let the flat part slide. You need an angled piece on the end of a threaded pin (essentially). But, I am pretty sure Summer makes exactly that. Found one that looks right:…

Q:Can it be used outdoors?

A:

Sturdy enough for outdoors but I am not sure if the gate is made of steel or aluminum. The weight of it feels like steel so rusting would be my only concern.

Q:can it be used outdoors

A:

No…this is for indoor use only.

Q:can this be used outdoors?

A:

I haven’t tried it, but I’m pretty sure it would rust in spots – especially the top hinge as there is a nice place for water to pool on top of the metal. Not sure how the pressure screws would hold up either. You might be ok for a while though. It’d do better than wood.

Q:will it fit an opening of 25.5 inches?

A:

so close, but NO it will not

Q:How long do the tension screws extend out to?

A:

From what I remember with my install they were at least 3″ if not longer. Check with manufacturer for exact specs.

Q:will this gate fit in a 62″ space? and if not are there extensions I can buy to get it to fit?

A:

You’ll probably have to contact the seller directly…..ours are wonderful but in smaller spaces! Sorry!

Q:Can this gate be used outdoors?

A:

This gate is coated in a thick layer of very durable paint. No exposed metal that I can see, except for the adjustment screws that affix it to the two walls it is pinned between. I have mine indoors, but I would assume that it would be fine outside and not rust because of the thick coating it has on it. It has held up to two teenage boys and three large dogs without a scratch on it for over 6 month. I really love my gate.

Q:Will this fit a 41 inch opening at the bottom of my stairs? I can’t find the exact width that it will extend to?

A:

adjusts to fit openings of 28 – 38”

Q:What is the width of the human walk through?

A:

I will say that it’s pretty narrow…without taking a tape measure to it, I’d say 2 1/2 feet. It’s especially hard to carry a laundry basket full of laundry through it. You have to carry the laundry basket over the top of the gate, which is kind of a pain. Hope this helps!

Q:This will be placed between walls in our hallway with 1″ baseboards at the bottom. Will it work when bottom is shorter width than top?

A:

I love this gate, it’s pretty, sturdy, and yes it can adjust to fit the different widths both at the top and at the bottom. It’s great.

Q:This will be placed between walls in our hallway with 1″ baseboards at the bottom. Will it work when bottom is shorter width than top?

A:

Yes, there are adjustments for different widths on the top and bottom.

Q:Is this easy enough to open that a 4 year old would be strong enough to lift and open it?

A:

yes

Q:How tall is this?

A:

This gate is 32″ in width and 28.5″ in height with the gate itself being 3″ wide?

Q:Is this gate easy enough to move from one doorway to another without expending a whole lot of time and effort?

A:

We used the mounting casters to prevent it from being easy to move, I imagine that if you skipped that step it would screw tight and loosen up like any other pressure mounted gate. We permanent mounted ours, it also depends upon your definition of ‘a lot of time and effort’, it will take a few minutes to unscrew and screw tight again.

Q:is gate easy to open ?

A:

Very easy to open. There’s a latch button you squeeze with your finger while you slightly lift the gate using the same hand. Very easy to operate. It’s a very good gate. Very satisfied.

Q:how far apart are the bars?

A:

2.25″

Q:How does this adjust for width? From the picture it looks like there are two side panels of fixed size that pivot to fit a smaller opening?

A:

Nothing pivots on this gate. There are two additional side panels with just a couple vertical bars that fit on each side if necessary. Also, the little feet on the sides extend like screws to make a custom fit. We used both additional side panels and extended the feet out quite a bit to have this fit in our doorway. It works very well for our 20 lb dog and is easy enough that our 7 and 11 yr old are comfortable using it.

Q:Can this gate be used to replace the gate on the superyard? ours is broken!

A:

I don’t think so. This one doesn’t have the hinges on the edges, and it clasps differently. However, the Supergate Deluxe Dcor Metal Gate would work. I have the Supergate Deluxe Dcor Metal Gate, Espresso and use the Supergate extension units with it, so I know those fit well together.

Q:what size opening does it fit

A:

We have them in doors with 36″ openings using the extension pieces. We bought two of these and love them. This is the only gate I found with a stay open door. I wish I found these years ago. I also like the bronze coloring.

Q:Would it be suitable for outdoor use?

A:

I don’t see why not. We only use ours indoors, but they’re very sturdy.

Q:What is width between bars?

A:

2.25″

Q:Can you wall mount this?

A:

Yes, it came with screws to wall-mount it

Q:what is the smallest opening this item can fit in?

A:

28 inches is the smallest opening.

Q:how wide is the gate door

A:

It has an extension with it. Not sure the max width, im in an old house and our doorway is about 29″.

Q:Can a 4-pound poodle get through the bars at any point?

A:

If the dog can get through a space about 3-4 inches apart then it might be able to.

Q:I’m looking for a gate for my stairs with a wooden banister on both sides (therefore no screws allowed!). Would this be an appropriate solution?

A:

Yes, there are no screws used to attach this gate. I have mine against drywall and there are no indentations. My daughter used her two, one at the top of the stairs and the other at the bottom. My son-in-law used blocks of wood against the wooden banister, no marks once removed.

Q:According to the description, the extensions are included but another buyer had commented that they had to buy them separately? Which is it?

A:

It came with two small extensions, equal to ” two vertical rails “, about 3″ for each rail.

Q:Can anyone tell me the difference between bronze and burnished steel color?

A:

I believe the difference is that bronze has a more golden color while burnished steel is more of a soft silver. I have the burnished steel one and enjoy it very much.

Q:Why do the three colors all have different pictures (in other words, it’s not just the colors that are different)? They look like 3 different gates.

A:

That is a good question. The picture is showing it from different angles, but it will be the burnished steel shown in the main image.

Q:Will the extensions allow it to fit a 42 inch opening?

A:

i would buy one extra extension piece just in case. you want a good tight fit so it stays in place.

Q:Will it fit into a hallway that is 47″ wide using the extensions, or will they make it too wide for 47″?

A:

The extensions allow for only up to 38.5 inches

  • Quick release hardware

Angle Mount Safeway

The KidCo Angle Mount Safeway is THE gate for situations where mounting points are not straight across from each other. Perfect for stop of stairs when you need to mount one side on the wall and one side on a banister, but it can also be mounted in a hallway when the walls don’t line up. As a hardware mount gate, it provides maximum safety at the top of stairs and in high traffic doorways because there is no bottom threshold to potentially trip over as found on pressure mount gates.

Features:

  • Hinge and Latch side hardware can be mounted on an angled surface
  • Easy one hand adult operation
  • Quick release hardware allows gate to be easily removed when not needed
  • Directional stop prevents gate from swinging out over stair
  • Heavy duty steel construction
  • Adjustable width
  • Product Dimensions:Gate Width: 28″-42.5″ Height: 31″
  • Product Weight: 8 pounds
  • Optional extensions (Model G4200) are available for openings up to 63″

Q:how wide will this gate enclose

A:

Mine is mounted in a 32″ opening. The user guide says it will go up to 42-1/2″ openings. They also mention optional 10″ extensions for 42″ to 63″ wide. They recommend no more than two extensions per gate.

Q:Can this gate be mounted to a perpendicular surface, i.e. in a doorway?

A:

Yes, this gate can be mounted in a door way, it does not have to be mounted on any angles to work properly.

Q:It says it’s 31 inches high. Does that include the wall brackets? We only have 31.5 inches between our banister and our base board.

A:

The gate has to be mounted a few inches off the ground or else it won’t open easily. I had a similar issue. I bought a Stairway Gate Installation Kit so I could mount the gate on the banister side of my stairs.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P007FI/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Q:Does this gate close automatically if left open?

A:

No, it won’t automatically close. There’s a hinge and you have to lift the gate an inch or so and place it into the lock (which is easy to do).

Q:when you open the gate – do you have to step over something like a bar at the bottom (as seen on most gates) or does the whole thing open up?

A:

It opens fully open. You don’t have to step over anything.

Q:Do you need an additional mounting kit? It says they’re frequently bought together, but that makes no sense if this is intended for angles.

A:

No it comes with one. You only need an additional kit if you need spacers to make it even. For instance we had to screw the bottom brackets into our floor board but the top was in a regular wall. We ended up just buying some scraps of floorboard to make it even. This gate is very versatile

Q:For top of the stairs I have wall on one side and a metal banister on the other. It’s 51″ wide. Do you think this gate will work for this combination?

A:

Possibly. You’ll need to install a piece of wood or something to attach the one end of the gate too (metal banister side). The directions for this gate are terrible!! I would suggest finding a gate that is tension mounted instead if possible.

Q:Do you know how much space is between each bar? I have a chihuahua and don’t want him to squeeze through. Thanks!

A:

Hi I just measured 2 inches between bars. I have molding so my gate also has a 4 1/2 inch gap under it. I’m assuming you may have to consider that as well. Good Luck!

Q:can you use the Y spindle for gate installation from Kidco to install this to railing ?

A:

I don’t think the y spindle eill work for this gate. But there is a stairway installation kit (same brand) that will work with this gate.

Q:How easily does the gate come off if it’s not needed all the time? Fast and simple to remove and put back? Ok if the pieces screwed in the wall stay.

A:

It doesn’t come off without a screwdriver. One side stays attached to the wall at all times, so that it hinges open and closed. It opens all the way open, but it does not come off easily at all.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Will this gate work for a top-of-stairs width of 43 1/2″ but also make a 90 degree turn to block a 14″ open top step?

A:

Yes

Q:Can I attach this gate to the wall?

A:

Yes, I have it attached between 2 walls

Q:Our loft opening is 67′. Wondering if I can order 3 extensions? Also, can the hinges be mounted at different angles? Thanks!

A:

You can order as many extensions as you want but they don’t recommend more than two because it loses rigidity. I have three extensions and when my toddler goes nuclear on the gate, it bends a lot…
The hinges can be mounted at different angles. Yes.

Q:Where does this open? On the one of the ends?

A:

On one of the ends and the full length swings open.

Q:Can this gate be installed into drywall – not wood or a stud – and still be sturdy?

A:

Yes, but you would need to use wall anchors or toggle bolts of some type. You could not just secure it to the drywell using only screws. Hope this helps.

Q:Can’t get it installed properly….its either too wide or too short for the opening….is there a trick to adjusting it to the width of the opening?

A:

Ours is install exactly like the picture between two posts. With out seeing the opening only thing I can recommend is if it is too short for the opening when the brackets are ectended to thier max shim out the area with lumber to close up gap. It extend out pretty far though. If is is too big when the rails our mounted together and you set the plastic bracket that bind the two rails together cut the inner part of the rails that over lap and attach them together again. Hopefully this helps

Q:Does the gate expand to the width you want or is it a fixed width? I have a space of 57inches. Two extensions would work but not the full 63inches

A:

The original gate is fixed. I had to use 1 extension gate which I could customize to my stairwell

Q:how many inches between the veritcal slats? Thanks.

A:

About 2.25 inches. The gates are great. We have 3. We ended up breaking one by accidentally slamming it too hard. The company sent us new parts quickly.

Q:What is the range of angles this gate can be mounted on? Could it be mounted at a 90 degree angle?

A:

Yes. 90 degree is the maximum.

Q:can you buy replacement mounts for the gate?

A:

Not sure. Google it. We never needed replacement mounts.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:Is it difficult to unlock the gate from a lower stair when climbing up carrying things (laundry, baby, etc…)

A:

Nope, this one is pretty easy. I’ve done it with my kid in my arms and with with a laundry basket in my arms as well.

Q:What happens if you don’t close the gate? Does it swing open or does it rest against the closure? Can you leave it open/unlocked when not in use?

A:

It does not automatically close like some of the others. You can leave it swung open or just “resting” on the closure as long as it’s installed level. You have to lift it to lock it.

Q:Could older children open this easily? I have a 7, 6 and 3 yr old that have their bedrooms in the basement but we have another baby on the way and wan

A:

A 6 and 7 year old should be able to open this gate with ease. My 3 1/2 year old though, has difficulty opening it. The lock is spring loaded and requires to be slid back with your thumb as well as needing to lift the gate approx. 1/2 inch to open it.. We have gone through a number of gates and this by far I have found to be the safest for being at the top of a stairwell.

Q:Can anyone describe the latch in detail? We have a 3 y.o. that has defeated the latch on our “Evenflo Top-of-Stair Gate, Wood, Xtra Tall”

A:

Not easy to open, you have to slide it back with your thumb and small hands should not be able to.

Q:My kids like to step on the open gate. Our other gates are pressure mount & sit on the floor. Can anyone tell me if these will hold up to that abuse

A:

My 2 year hangs on it and swings on it as long as it is mounted properly you should be fine

Q:Can this be mounted to a metal stair case banister?

A:

Reportedly, yes. But first you have to get through the grotesquely cryptic instructions for assembling the basic unit. Good luck.

Q:How wide is this gate?

A:

max would be prob 45″

Q:Is this gate only pressure mounted? I’m looking for one that is screw mounted.

The wooded bean will be safe, there are pads included in the kit to protect drywall. In order to use the gate it requires you to use compression to close the gate using a snapper. Q:My 2.5 year old has pushed over every other gate we’ve gotten. She will push it (with her legs) and it will either completely fall over, or she will be able to slide between the opening she just created and get out. Anybody had any problems with this…

Note this other reason…It is extremely heavy to a child (a good thing in my opinion) and should only be screwed in. After repeated use and kids hanging, pushing, pulling…it can, over time, come lose no matter how TIGHT you think you may have it. This could cause it to fall on them. Only absolute way to be sure they are safe is using the screw in option. I do not know why anyone would think twice about it.

Q:Does the latch make a lot of noise when you open or close it? It’s for our son’s bedroom door and the noise may wake him.
A:

The latch works by pinching the top and bottom “buttons” together. If you keep them pinched while closing it, rather than swinging the gate closed, it doesn’t make any noise at all

Q:How far apart are the vertical bars? I don’t want my cat to be able to squeeze through.
A: A cat won’t fit through them! They are only a couple inches!

Q:I have a little four pound yorkshire terrier and am concerned he can fit between the vertical bars. How many inches apart are they spaced?
A:

I measured them to be ~2 inches in between the bars.

Q:Can you pressure mount this gate and still use the walk through? We purchased another gate that had to be screwed in to use the walk through.
A:

The Munchkin is sort of a hybrid, if you will. It comes with four round cups, approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and 1/4 inch deep; these screw into the door jamb in order to make it stable. Then you pressure mount the gate, inserting it into the cups. This prevents it from being pushed out of the jamb. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need more clarification. It works great for us. Good luck.

Q:can a cat fit?
A:

A small cat or kitten yes, a fat one…no

Q:Can this be mounted permanently?
A:

Yes, it comes with screws and mounting “cups”. I didn’t mount mine with the screws because it is not at the top of stairs just in a doorway, but it still is very secure. I would however, if mounting for stairs, use the screws. I love this gate!

Q:What is the diameter of the “mounts” (the circle parts where the gate attaches to the walls?) I want to mount it on a 1in wide door frame will it fit?
A:

They are 1.5 inches.

Q:So just to summarize – this is a purely pressure mounted gate, but they (and many reviewers) still recommend screwing something into the wall?
A:
mines not screwed into the wall. our house is split foyer and have it at the top of the stairs. the latch side is against the metal railing so it cannot be screwed into anything. the mounted side is up against the wall, but again we have the tension set for it, it is not screwed into the wall. Works great, the only thing that my husband did was add a small piece of wood between the tension screws and the wall because the screws were pretty well maxed out with the location and it would come loose regularly. since he added the wood pieces we haven’t had any issues.

Q:swing
A:
It swings both ways.

Q:how wide is the actual gate opening?
A:
I just measured and it is 22″ if you mean the walk-through part.

Q:Can this be mounted to a banister at the top of the stairs?
A:
Yes as Lon as the height of the banister allows the gate to contact/mounting to the flat surfaces at the top and bottom of the newel post. We have one at the top of our stairs and its been mounted for over a year. Use the small screws that come with it for extra security.

Q:I have a 10 pound Maltipoo, she moves a metal fence that my dog trainer recommended wondering if this is better
A:
My daughter is pretty rough on it and it doesn’t budge but I’m not sure what kind of gate you had before that the dog could move. There are plastic latches at the bottom that keep the gate from swinging either way so it might help. Good luck!

Q:How far will the door part swing? I would like one that opens wider than 90 degrees (so back towards the wall).
A:
It will open up to the metal frame on either side. So at least 180.

Q:When this item arrived the latch was not latched. In fact, the swinging door and the fixed bar that it latches to are about 2 inches apart. Defect?
A:
No. Keep tightening the ends and it will slowly close!

Q:I have baseboard molding near the bottom of my steps, but not the top. Can the bottom be pressure mounted at a different width than the top? Thanks.
A:
I’m using mine in a doorway, but I believe you can do that. The top and bottom mounts are totally separate and adjustable, so they should work fine at different widths as long as you keep the gate centered.

Q:bought it & the directions say that it is to be drilled into place- is it stable being pressure mounted only? we have an old home.
A:
I pressure mounted mine. I believe it came with disks made of something similar to wax paper, but didn’t use them. I had to move the gate a bit and it did peal the paint off the wall, but otherwise it’s pretty solid without using screws.

Q:How hard is it to open I have a six year old and I want to make sure he is going to be able to open the gate when he needs through?
A:
I purchased the gate to keep my Maltese dog out of the living room. However, I would say that it is not hard to open. You basically squeeze the latch with your index and thumb at the same time. Hope this response helps you.

Q:The description is confusing. Does the gate with the included 2 3/4″ extension go to 35″ or is it 35″ first and the extension makes it 37 3/4″?
A:
i measured the gate and extension, it measured 30 x 3/4. Keep in mind the screws can be adjusted to make it much wider. How wide is the opening you have ? My door opening is 32. If I needed to, it could go wider.

Q:I need it to fit 43.5 “. Has anyone added extensions this wide? is it still sturdy?
A:
No once you start adding extensions it losses it strength for an opening that wide you’re going to have to find something else

Q:How secure is the latch on this gate? My 2 year old has learned to pop open our current gate and I want to make sure he can’t open the gate. Thanks
A:
If his hands are big enough to get a grip on a 2 inch wide object then he’d have no problems opening this. To open, you just squeeze the top and bottom gray buttons.

Q:The item is described as being 35″ wide, however in the specs it states its 31″, which is it?
A:
Not sure about expansion to 35″ but screws allow my gate to fit the door opening of 32 and 3/4 inches. The gate works great.

Q:Do you have to put the gate together or does it come assembled?
A:
The extensions are not added on the to gate, but otherwise it’s essentially assembled with a few small components that need to be clipped on to the gate. All the big metal pieces are in place. You will need to do adjustments to lock it into place depending upon whether you’re using the pressure plates to keep it secured or are screwing it into the walls.

Q:Is this easily put up & taken down? I’m looking for something to block our kitchen from our 1 yr old when I use the oven but don’t want to leave up.
A:
No. Not for up and down. Meant to stay up. Easy to open and close

Q:How wide is the swing open part of the gate?
A:
approximately 90 degrees

Q:I have a door that is 28¨, will this fit?
A:
Well it says in the desciption that its 29.5″- 35″

Q:Will this fit 32″ openings with the 2.75 in extension?
A:
Mine is installed in 32″ opening with no extension

Q:I have an opening 57.5 inches wide, can this gate handle that distance with extension products? If so, which ones?
A:
It has one extension bar. I don’t know if you can buy extra extensions, but as it cones when you purchase it, it will not fit an opening that large.

Q:I have 4 pound dogs, will this gate work? Very important since my girlfriend is coming to stay and she has large dogs that r not social
A:
My cat weighs 4.5lbs, and she cannot fit through the bars. My big dog weighs 80lbs, and even with arthritis, she can easily jump this gate. Hopefully that helps

Q:I want to use screw mount for this but is it good to screw this in using plastic anchors on my drywall side? How many screws r needed for each mount?
A:
I don’t see anywhere you can screw this to a wall. It is a pressure mount screw. I am currently using to in a hallway, so it is longer.

Q:We have a 1/2 wall w molding on one side of our stairs. How far up are the two mounting spots? Other gates hit at uneven spots so can’t screw them in
A:
I have the tall gate and we have it pressure mounted, the first (lowest) circle center is 1″ above the floor, the top circle center is at 35″.

Q:Can this be safely pressure-mounted on metal railing?
A:
I don’t see any problem with such a mounting. If you are concerned with slippage, the rubber tips on the pressure mounting screws should prevent that.

Q:Can this gate be installed on an angle?
A:
I’m not sure, but my guess would be that it can’t. It works by pressure from the “feet” that you tighten to press against the door frame. It comes with separate pieces that you can screw into the wall, but then you still use the gate the same way; with pressure against those pieces you screw in (its meant for extra support if you are using it at the top or bottom of stairs, or raised above moulding, etc). I’m not sure of any gate that would work on an angle. I hope you find something.

Q:Would this gate work with small dogs?
A:
That’s exactly what I bought it for. If you please it on the door frame to the outside of where the door strikes the trim, you can open it back against the door when the door is open and close it easily while the door remains open. I use it to confine my dogs but not to make them feel closed in. This has worked great and I’m so glad I purchased it.

Q:My opening is 39 inches. If I get this gate and add the 5.5 extension will it work? is the extension adjustable?
A:
It should work because the extensions are fully adjustable.

Q:Can this be used outdoors? I am looking for a gate to put between my concrete walk way and my backyard, to train the dog not to do her “business” on the grass, not sure if it will be durable enough for outdoor elements. Thanks.
A:
Don’t know for sure. Probably for a while but might rust in connecting joints. We love ours but it is inside.

Q:I am totally confused. I have a 48 inch opening. Will this gate work for me? Will I need to purchase more extensions or will the gate come with them?
A:
“This 29-1/2-inch-high gate can accommodate openings from 29-1/2 to 35 inches wide so it can be used throughout your house. For versatility, the gate includes one 2-3/4-inch extension. The Easy-Close can also extend up to 54 inches wide with the addition of 5-1/2-inch and 11-inch extensions, which are available separately.”

From the product page. No, it would not work for you as is, but with a combination of separately purchased extensions, it’s possible.

Q:How wide is the actual gate opening?
A:
Opening is about 23 1/2″.

check-price-on-amazon
Q:I have a 41 inch doorway. What do you suggest for extension?
A:
We couldn’t find an extension either. We ended up purchasing a different gate that extended futher.

Q:How wide apart are the slats? I’m looking for a gate to keep my very slim maltipoo contained.
A:
Maybe 2 1/2″ at most.
You shouldn’t have a problem with your maltipoo, let alone anything larger than a lizard! haha

Q:Looking for a gate to our 3 1/2 year old’s room that she can go through herself but her baby sister won’t. Can a young child open the gate easily?
A:
You must use your thumb and index finger to release the latch. It doesn’t take much pressure to do it so I would think a small child may be able to release the latch! The important thing would be for your child to make sure the gate clicks back in place. It doesn’t take much power to do that but if the gate isn’t locked back in place, of course the gate would be open and your other child could crawl/walk right through it. Check out the video on YouTube for this item to see what you may think of the ease!

Q:My opening for our gate is 36.75 inches. The gate is 35 inches wide out of the box. Will the side pressure wall screws extend out enough to expand?
A:
Yes. Ours is being used in a much wider opening, as well, and it fits securely.

Q:Can you buy the mounting hardware fornthis gate? I used this gate for my toddler and want to pass it to a friend, but lost the hardware in a move.
A:
I’m sorry I don’t know that answer.

Q:Can you use it pressure mounted and still close the door with it in place?
A:
It is amazing, the four sides have knobs that twist and tighten the frame to the wall, but the door is not affected by this pressure and works great. No issues,

Q:The width of my basement entry way is 37 inches and has wooden handles on either side. Can i install these in wood without buying gate extensions?
A:
No, it barely fits 35″ as advertised

Q:I have an opening about 69″ wide…can you use multiple extenders to get it even wider?
A:
Probably. I’m using one extender and you can buy multiple but I don’t know if you can use them together.

Q:is this self-closing? i don’t want a self-closing gate. i see a listing for a self-close munchking, so i’m hoping these are not the same product.
A:
It is not self closing

Q:what do i need to fit an opening of 45 inches?
A:
Check for other brands of gates, they do make extra wide and extra tall gates, look in pet products if you cannot find them for children.

Q:It says the gate is 35″ and includes a 2 3/4″ extension. Does the 35″ already include the width of the ext. or is the total width 37 3/4″ combined?
A:
I have two of these and they are great gates! The gate body is about 27.5 inches. Will do about a 30 inch door opening without extensions as the screw out feet add about an inch to an inch and a half on each side. Extensions are about 3 inches and I had to use the extension that I did not need from the first gate (used on a 30 inch door) along with the extension from thesecond gate to do a 36 inch door. The extensions did pare up pretty nicely, are solid and look fine. You can use the extensions on either side if you need more than one and want to center the gate.

Q:How high is this gate
A:
29 1/2 inches

Q:My opening is 45″ wide will it fit w/extensions, if so which ones ? I can’t figure it out to 45″, I already have this gate.. Any recommendations?
A:
I’m struggling with this as well. It looks like the proper gate is 29-1/2 wide. With two extender options. 5 1/2″ and 11″. So if you have a 45 inch wide doorway, subtract the gates 29.5 inches – which gives you 15.5 inches of extension needed. Which is one inch LESS than and 11″ and 5 1/2″ extender together. So I’m thinking it won’t work for you with their extenders? My openings is 42″ wide and same problem. I need 12.5 inches of extension. I am assuming that the extenders are not at all adjustable so if I got two 5 1/2″ pieces I would be an inch short. But of course any other combination would be way too large. If anyone has installed these and has a better insight please do share, but it seems like you’d have to meet exact widths to use the extenders?

Update: OMG could I be less helpful, I think that math is wrong. Because it does come with one 2 3/4 inch extension. I’m still not clear on whether there is any “range” available to these extenders or if you have to match exactly.

Q:Can a cat squeeze through the spacing of the bars, or could this work as a cat barrier?A:

yes a cat could squeeze through the bars..sorry
Q:What is the best way to hang the gate where the top of the stairs has a stair banister on one side and drywall on the other?A:

Get a banister monts.or get heavy duty zip ties for banister side, get a wood bord stain as of your wood and use zip ties though wholes than mount the gate. Get drywall anchers for the other side. All the best.
Q:Is the latch complicated enough that my toddler won’t figure it out?A:

The latch for North States super gate is absolutely complicated enough so your toddler won’t figure it out! You have to pull down the latch lock/catch while lifting the gate up at the same time to swing it open. A toddler will not be able to do this, which after using the gate for a week, I trust the safety and easy use of the gate!
Q:Length of mounting brackets? We have 32 inches of space (molding in the way), the gate is 31 inches tall, how much above the gate do the brackets go?A:

probably not going to work for you. On the “handle” side you would need about 2 1/2 inches above the top of the gate.
Q:Does this gate swing opens both ways or just in one direction?A:

Once installed properly, the gate only swings open one way. It’s designed that way on purpose for safety so it can’t be pushed open over the stairs and your baby goes tumbling down.
Q:Will this gate work being mounted at the bottom of stairs with one side being mounted at a wall and the otherside being mounted at a banister/spindle?A:

Yes. That’s how I have mine downstairs. And then upstairs it’s mounted on the railings.
Q:Is the metal in the gate magnetic? I want to put a magnet on the wall to keep it open when needed.A:

I hadn’t thought of that. It’s a great idea.

I just tested it out, and it is magnetic on the top and bottom rails as well as the bars.
Q:Can this be placed on an uneven wall? The bottom trim is sticking out.A:

That is the same problem that I had. I tried to hang the gate on a wall with baseboard trim that extended out from the wallboard. this created an uneven wall as you describe. There were two problems with this installation. Firstly, the uneven wall as you mention. Secondly, the hinge pulled out of the wallboard despite my having used molly plugs. I think the only way to resolve this issue would be to apply a vertical piece of wood to the wallboard to create an even installation surface from top to bottom. Then install the hinges on a) the vertical wood piece and b) the baseboard.
Q:Does this gate swing 180 degree and stay open if needed, when not in use. Would we have to hold it open with something so that it doesn’t close?A:

We have two of them. They will not stay open on there own. I would suggest buying this one though it has been my favorite out of the 4 we have.
Q:My door is 42″-43″. Does it fit well for my door ?A:

Yes, it will fit. The gate is expanded or contracted by the overlapping of the two sections. There are brackets on the top and bottom that secure the two sections together. It is shortened or lengthened by the exact width of the bars. The perfect fit is achieved by the adjustable screws on each end that attach it to the mounting hardware and the latch. My door is 31″ so the two sections overlap almost completely. For your door, you will have a smaller overlap. Hope this helps.

Q:Could this gate be used for outdoors?A:
We have installed our 2 gates at the entrances to our covered porch. They have been through a very hot summer, wet fall, and now freezing temperatures and are none the worse for wear. They still look and perform great.

Q:Can this gate be installed outdoors on a deck? Is it weather resistant?A:
I believe it had a powder coated finish. However I don’t think you would get more than a couple years service out of it due to it’s light weight…

Q:How wide is the mounting hardware exactly? I need to mount it on one side with a 1″ metal wrought iron stair rail….want this to fit on the railA:
The brackets are 1 inch wide but the screws are centered in that width.

Q:I know it swings in just one direction, away from the stairs. However, can you select what side the latch to open it is on?A:
there is no real latch just a blocker can turn either way or do without it and it can swing both ways you must lift it and push the direction you want to go……. not really good for toddlers but a dream for dogs. my wolves respect it and stay back I did mount it a little higher because no way can mine go under I liked it so well I purchased another one. you can also mount either side….

Q:Is there any way to affix a lock? Want to be sure my 98 yr. old mother cannot figure out how to open it! Want to limit her P.M. wanderingA:
No there’s not bc the piece that attaches to the wall is flat with just a place for the gate to swing into, unless you attach a chain to the wall to hold it shut?

Q:Is there any way to affix a lock? Want to be sure my 98 yr. old mother cannot figure out how to open it! Want to limit her P.M. wanderingA:
don’t think so

Q:Does the gate come with the banister straps in addition to the screw hardware?A:
No

Q:I have an odd opening at the top of my stairs, the angle of one side is about 120 degrees to the far side. Will this gate work for me?A:
If you are talking about the radius of how far the gate will swing open, then yes. It allows you to let it swing 180 degrees.

Q:Can this swing both ways if you wanted it to? Also, is it JMPA certified? Thank you in advance for your answers.A:
Yes JMPA

Q:Can this gate be mounted in a door jam with a 1-1/2″ wide molding? Not sure how wide the gate hardware requirements ACTUALLY are ???A:
These gates are actually perfect for that issue. We bought 6 of these for our house and grand parents home. The best part of the gates are that they can be mounted on standard width and extra wide openings by expanding the center mounts. For our larger opening I was concerned about the strength of the gate after expanding to the widest available. It has held up and super safe. The end screws which mount to the wall mounts can also be extended to meet the jams. There are nuts which securely tighten both ends. Give you and idea of the strength, my daughter will stand on the gate while swinging and it does nothing to them. So far best gate I’ve found for the money and a permenant solution for easy open and close.

Q:Does the gate self close and self lock? When you open the gate, does it swing shut and self lock?A:
No it does not auto latch. But a very gentle “push” on it will give it enough energy to latch. It will go back to the close position if you install it so that it natual default position is right by the latch. You can also install it so the natural default is wide open.

Q:Will it work for a larg dogA:
My dogs are both around 35 pounds, but it is a sturdy gate and I would assume that it would work for a larger dog too.

Q:Can the gate be mounted so that it opens either to the left or to the right? I want it to open away from the stairs with the hinges on the left.A:
Yes you can, the stop is mounted under the latch mechanism and it can be positioned to face either direction.

Q:Can a medium sized child (average 10 year old) with weak grip strength open this gate?A:
Yes. It’s more of a thumb operated latch. So if the child can push down with their thumb, it releases the latch and you push or pull to open.

Q:Does this gate just swing or does it swing and slide? Opening is 41 inches but the cabinet it would rest against while open is not that big.A:
Just swing.

Q:Can this gate be easily liffted off its anchors/removed for when you don’t have kids or dogs visiting? Like the larger NorthStar gates?A:
Yes

Q:will this gate work on a 45″ opening at the top of the stairs?A:
It says 28-48″ opening. Ours was 36″.
It requires a wall or trim on each side to attach the hardware. Is is a great gate, and I’ve bought a lot the past 40 years. My grand kids and pets cannot open, but I can with my arthritic, neuropathy hands.

Q:Would it work to attach a vertical piece of wood to each banister & attach wood with a mounting kit to prevent drilling into banisters directly?A:
Yes

Q:Is this gate hard to install? (How many hours did it take you? We are not especially handy.)A:
Nope, not hard at all. Came with a paper to told on the door facing that you used to mark the facing. Put the brackets there and hung the gate on them. Simple and strong. Love it.

Q:Installation was easy and straightforward, but bottom latch doesn’t properly catch like the top one does. Has anyone had this problem? Any solutions?A:
Must make sure its level…also if u are putting on baseboard put brown washers (purchase separate at hardware store) to bring it out a little…then no problem with catch.

Q:How wide is the step-through opening?A:
It opens all the way so its the width of my stair well.

Q:Is there a way to order replacement parts? I need the top latch which has broken after two months of use.A:
I emailed them directly and gave them this gate info when I needed another wall section and screws for it. Try emailing them directly. It worked for me

Q:can you use banister adapter mountsA:
I don’t know what that is, can you break that down

Q:Is there a way to mount this with a handrail in the way?A:
No..u must be in front , behind or below hand rail

Q:Is this gate strong enough to keep a 125 lb person from braking through it and falling down the stairs.A:
If you made sure it was in studs I’m the wall I think it would be fine. It’s a solid gate if it fits your door opening good and have studs in the right spot for it

Q:What is the height of the mounting bracket? I’ll have to install one of them in a 2.5” space between the baseboard and bottom trim of wainscoting.A:
I have my bottom bracket at 3 inches and the top bracket at 30 inches. I think you could fit yours within the 2.5 inch space you have available. It is a good, solid gate and I like it much better than the other 2 previous gates I tempted to install there.

Q:Can this gate be mounted at a slight angle (ie window across from the wall and the mounting walls wont be directly across from eachother)? The hingle looks like it can easily accomodate an angle (as its 180 degree capable), but thw question is will the…A:
Yes

Q:I am attaching between a wall and a 31.5″ banister. Is 31.5″ tall enough to attach the hinge side of the gate?A:
Yes…mine tops out at 29″

Q:is this suitable for outdoors?A:
I have two and they are both installed outside on my deck and seem to do just fine.

Q:Can you buy extra extensions to fit a 78″ wide stair width? I have very large openings at the top and bottom of my dual staircase home.A:
Not sure, as I returned this version but it seemed to only be adjustable to a point

Q:If there is a wooden wall is a wall of iron, that how to install up ?A:
A wooden wall. Very nice door I love them.

Q:My opening is 27 inches. I know it says 28-48 inches, but I wondered if there was any wiggle room, and therefore a chance that this gate could work?A:
Yes

Q:Does this gate have a stay/hold open feature? Or will it stay open on its own?A:
There is no stay open feature. It tends to swing partially closed. That said it is a very nice gate easy to open and close. Solid unit.

Q:Is this gate adjustable?A:
Yes

Q:Folks. If I mount this at the top of my stairs on the right (wall) side- will it swing open 90 degrees and block my hallway or will it swing open 180A:
It’s capable of swinging 180. Mine only does 90 because of where we mounted it.

Q:Will this work for an opening with an existing swing-in door, as in a laundry room?A:
As long as there was room for the door to close properly and the mounting bracket would fit in the door frame. It is probably 2 – 2.5 inches wide. The gate would probably need to open opposite the door. Good luck!

Q:Anyone able to secure the gate to a banister? How did you do it? Did you use a separate mounting kit? If so, which one?A:
All u need to do is grab a few small thicker washers from hardware store. Put one at each hole when u drill in, that will bring it out from the Banister and make it even. Hope you understand what I mean.

Q:Can this gate be mounted on the trim of a door?A:
yes, we mounted it to the trim of a door into our pantry. We had to modify the guide that came with the gate in order to get it to work, but it was easy to do!

Q:I have an interior door to the basement. Could this gate be installed on the other side of the door?A:
Yes it can go there, do yo have a door frame or are you screwing it to the wall. The door will only open one way. I love it. And it looks good. Get the dark one.

Q:Are the screws that came with it made for drywall? Did you use dry wall anchors?A:
The screws that came with it are made to go into wood work or wood trim. We were able to hit studs and get it secure.

Q:can I use it out door?A:
You can. I have one outside and in.

Q:Is this pressure mounted or do you have to drill holes in the wallA:
It is wall mounted. You’ll need to drill holes in the wall.

Q:does it have a center swing door?A:
No

Q:Will this gate work outside on a deck, preventing dog and toddler from falling down stairs?A:
Yes, I believe it would work outside, as it’s designed to be installed at the top of a staircase whether inside or out.

Q:Where is this product made?A:
Manufactured in Guang Dong, China

Q:Does it fit with baseboards?A:
You would need to have a shim of equal thickness to the baseboard so the hinges and latches would be equally spaced in mounting. I mounted mine just above the baseboard which places the bottom of the gate at that level. Still very pleased with both of the gates I installed.

Q:The gate is 31″ high, but what is the height for installation of the hardware to hold the gate, it looks an inch or two higher?A:
yes, the mounts on the wall run an inch or so above the gate and below the gate, but if your application is an open hallway, it won’t affect anything

Q:I only have 32 inches high to work with. I know the description says 31 inches high, but does that include the latch?A:
Yes

Q:Can this be used outside on a deck? What type of metal is it constructed of?A:
I think it could be used outside on a deck if you don’t live in an extremely hot or cold climate. The latch portion is made of a sturdy plastic. But it might get brittle over time if it’s in extreme hot or extremely cold climates.

Don’t know what type of metal..but it’s holding together great. My pit bull literally chewed thru my last wooden gate…not a scratch on this one.

Q:Can the gate be removed without removing the mounting hardware?A:
NO

Q:I have a chow that destroys every wire gate or wire crate he is put in, Is the metal in this gate strong enough that he can’t destroy it?A:
I would think that the metal on this gate would withstand any dog trying to destroy. It is very solid.

Q:Will the gate fit a opening 5.8 feet?A:
No, max is 48″

Q:Can the gate be adjusted to swing both directions, over the stairway and away?A:
Yes. You might have a handrail to account for. The gate is nice looking, fairly easy to install, but our golden retriever was able to push through it when she wanted to get to the second floor of the house.

Q:My handrail goes to the end of the banister post. I’ll need 4″ between the post & first spindle to work around handrail. Will this gate work?A:
I’m not quite visualizing how the handrail and gate would be oriented. But the gap between the post and first bar is only 3″.

Hopefully that helps.

Q:can I install the gate with metal banister on one side of opening?A:
No, there are brackets on both sides of the gate that have to be screwed into wood.

Q:suitable for outdoor use?A:
I think it would be. Some of the mounting screws could rust if you don’t replace them with stainless. Otherwise it is painted steel and plastic parts that should be ok. Mine is indoors so I can’t say for sure.

Q:Easy to remove? I only need it when grandchildren visit.A:
Since it gets screwed into the wall, this gate is better for a more permanent situation. I suppose it doesn’t take long to unscrew it if that’s something you don’t mind.

Q:Does this get screwed into wall which I don’t want . need tensionA:
Yes, it is screwed into the wall. This will not work as a tension gate.

Q:Would this gate work outside? How long do you think it would survive in rain and sun?A:
I think that it would work fine outside. The only concern might be how the plastic pieces will hold up in the heat. I would personally put it outdoors.

Q:Installing at the top of stairs. Should the hinge be on the wall or banister side? Does it matter?A:
I placed mine on the wall side. Both sides must be flat and parallel for it to operate correctly. There is a stop you install so if this is being used for a child they can’t get the door to swing past the latch and fall. If the latch side isn’t flat you won’t be able to use this properly. I have two and they work very well and look good too. Hope this helps you. One more thing I believe you can find the installation instructions online.

Q:How do you install it?A:
It comes with four ‘brackets’ which you must attach to the doorway with two screws each. One one side the ends of the bars pivot in the brackets to swing open. On the other side the ends of the bars click into the brackets to close. A simple thumb lever on the top bracket releases the gate.

Q:Can this be used outdoors? on a covered porch areaA:
Yeah I don’t see why not, as long as you have some place to properly mount it. The gate is painted metal so it should be okay in the elements, at least for a while.

Q:I live in an old house. The opening is 32.5″ on bottom but 33.5″ on top. Is this hardware adjustable in some way to accommodate my crooked house?A:
It would be hard to adjust the gate itself because it slides and making the bottom wider than the top wouldn’t work.

But you could probably put some kind of shim or anchor board on the opening that would even out the gap and then install the gate.

Q:Does this gate swing both ways?A:
No the main gait only opens one way but you can pick which direction when installing. And the way it mounts you can open for big items from either side of the wall where it attaches. Hope makes sense

Q:can i get it in white?A:
This one does not, but we do have others in white.

Q:has anyone bought this gate for outdoor use? I need a gate for my patio.A:
I use mine at the entrance to my front door, connected to my door frame…I have two granddaughters that are toddlers…this is used to keep them in the house instead of running everywhere while the house enjoys fresh air…it has been installed now going on 3 years…it is the first gate that my 3 yr old can not figure out how to open

Q:does shipping in the states really take as long as they estimate? Ordered today and it says June 12th -June 23. ThxA:
I do not know who you ordered it from, but most of us have to put in an approx date for shipping and also for arrival. Some items take longer but most of our items ship earlier that the estimate. You will probably be surprised when it shows it shipped sooner. But there really is no way for me to know who you bought it from. Good Luck

Q:Could this be attached to a brick wall on one side and a banister on the other?A:
You just need a masonry drill for the brick and it should work , this is a very sturdy gate all metal ,

Q:Is the latch very difficult to open? I want my 3.5 year old to be able to get through on her own.A:
Not difficult but it is on top and a little stiff so a 3.5 year old might have some problems with it.

Q:Can this be used outsideA:
I suppose it could be…but it is metal, and would eventually succumb to the elements.

Q:Can this gate be installed on the wall with 1.5 inches thick baseboard? the hardware can be adjusted to fit that?A:
Yes, but you may have to install a 1 1/2″ thick block at the top of the gate as well to keep it stable.

Q:My husband installed this gate and I had to move some of the braces because they were not properly lined up. Not working well at all. Suggestions?A:
I finally gave up. Not using my gate at all. Maybe someone else can be helpful.

Q:can it be pressure mounted?A:
No. The gate is hardware mounted only.

Q:does this gate close automatically ?A:
No, its just a swinging gate. Has a manual latch system that requires some force on your part to latch closed, and open.

Q:I see that this is adjustable but will it telescope so that it will take up less space when opened?A:
Sorry, no. The adjustment is fixed to fit the opening.

Q:Can this gate be used outdoors ?A:
I would not use this gate outside. the metal is not sturdy enough to handle the elements outside and its not steel which is more resistant to rust. iit might be usable if it’s outside under a canopy or some other overhanging

Q:top latchA:
I’m not sure what you mean by “top latch” since that’s not really a question I can try to answer you the best I can. There is a release button on the top of the gate that you push to operate it but there are latches on both the top and bottom to keep the gate in place once locked.

Q:Can this gate be mounted on an angle?A:
what type of angle? Can you send me a picture?

Q:Any idea as to when this will be back in stock?A:
We have 4 in stock right now. Not sure how long they will last.

Q:can i mount the hinge side on the face of the railing instead of the inside (A:
Not exactly sure what you’re asking, but, yes, you can mount the hinge side on the railing side of your stairs. The latches and hinge are independent of side.

Q:Does this gate only swing one direction? I want to install it on a staircase and do not want to have to squeeze around it when opened. ThanksA:
Yes, we have it on a staircase as well and it opens up one way.

Q:I don’t want a gate up all the time. Will I have to remove all 4 anchor points each time I want to take the gate off the wall?A:
you would have to take the anchors off one side of the wall — so two of the 4 anchor points. The other two could technically stay but they are black and would be noticeable

Q:BanisterA:
I am not sure if I understand your question but if you are asking if this item would be suitable as a banister, in my opinion it would not. Extremely well suited as a child or pet gate at a doorway or stairway but not structurally configured to perform as a banister.

Q:Is the hardware included for mounting on metal (wrought iron) stairs? Looks like you need to be able to drill into wood banister/wall for this to workA:
It includes your standard hardware. Screw into wood type hardware. I hope this helps.

Q:Does this gate come in any other colors? White maybe?A:
no bronze only

Q:What are the mounting hardware measurements? We will be attaching this to a bannister and think the railing may prevent proper mounting.A:
Is the bannister curved? So long as it is a flat surface I don’t foresee a problem. The hardware itself was not very wide, 1-2 inches at the most.

Q:What is the width???A:
It is adjustable betwe Dr n 24 and 48 inches. You have two pieces and the overlap tty o make it infinitely adustable within the range. Easy to set up…

Q:Can you affix this to a banister on one side?A:
I bought:No Hole Stairway Baby Gate Mounting Kit By Safety Innovations-which we used to mount this gate to our banister

Q:How far apart are the bars? I have a 15 lb dog and I don’t want him slipping through the spaces.A:
about 3″, and I have a 18lb dog and she doesn’t slip through the spaces. It’s a really good gate.

Q:What is the width between the spindles?A:
my guess would be 2-3 inches.. probably closer to 3

Q:How many inches are the rails spaced apart?A:
just under 3 inches about 2 and 7/8 inches

Q:I’m renting a house for only one week so want to be able to install on quickly and temporarily. Does this have a pressure mounted connection that is easy to install and won’t damage walls?A:
No, you need to screw the mounts in. Depending on your exact needs you might want to consider this gate: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PRUAFI/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Q:Can I use this outdoors? Like on a deckA:
I use the gate indoors and love it! I think that it is constructed well and will work well on a deck but you might get as many years from due to weather.

Q:can this gate be used outdoors at the top of deck stairs?A:
Yes, provided you have space on the posts to either side to which you can screw the attachments that support the gate.

Q:how big is the box? will 5 of them fit in the trunk of my carA:
Five boxes should fit in a normal size trunk
